Has anyone ever experienced a dysphoric hypomanic episode?!

Question: Has anyone ever experienced a dysphoric hypomanic episode!?
I was diagnosed with depression 4 years ago!. Tried 2 antidepressants that didn't work, then 2!.5 years ago was started on Venlafaxine (Efexor) which seemed to work!. Gradually increased to the maximum dose which I've been on now for just over a year!. I've never really had a "recovery" from my depression, I still have times when I feel suicidal and very very low!.

But I also have these episodes which last maybe a few weeks at a time where I have a lot of energy, but it's all used in a negative way!. I get really agitated and restless, can't concentrate on anything or sit down to anything longer than about 5 minutes, I get bored by everything and feel like my mind is just racing!. I get very anxious and panicky, sometimes having panic attacks and even with the help of sedatives, I barely sleep, yet I'm not tired!.

I'd never considered this as a form of hypomania before because I thought you had to be happy for hypomania, but now I'm wondering!.!.!.!.!.!.!.anyone have any experience with this!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I agree this sounds bipolar!. Everyone reacts to antidepressants differently!. Effexor is a strong anti-depressant too!. Personal experience as a bipolar, I quickly went manic on effexor, both euphoric and dysphoric!. The dysphoric is very difficult, feeling snappy, can't sit still, can't sleep, almost like how you would feel if you drank 20 espressos!.

Certainly tell your doctor, because you may need a mood stabilizer like Lithium, Lamictal (they come to mind because I've taken them for 13 years with good results)!. Antidepressants in a bipolar can increase self-harm urges like suicidal ideation, you don't want to mess with that so do please discuss with doc!. I wish you a quick recovery :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Talk to your Dr asap!. That sounds like hypomania to me!.!.!.!.diagnosed bipolar 8 years!. And anti depressants can bring that out!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes!. At that level and much worse, on and off meds!. Prozac was a constant state!. Effexor is the drug that made me go nearly full on manic and got me diagnosed!. Avoid that! I now rapid cycle!.

If you are seeing a GP, see a psychiatrist and have a long conversation!. Chart your moods including what was going on in your life when these episodes happened as well as meds/dosages taken
