I would be lost without therapy! I think it is great that you're going to get this much needed help for your depression!.

Therapy isn't a quick fix and it can take some time to make a noticeable difference, but it DOES help!.

You mention that you are shy and it takes some time to come out of your shell, don't worry about this - a lot of people have shyness or social anxiety and have trouble talking to others!. You can still benefit from therapy!. Some suggestions I have to help:

1!. If it is easier for you, you can make a list of the things you want to discuss with your therapist and bring it in!. That way you can look at your list and be sure to remember everything even if you are stumbling a bit because of your shyness!.

2!. Sometimes it is also easier to write down what you are feeling and hand the note to your therapist, that way he or she will be able to know some of what is going on in your mind and better direct questions to you to help overcome these obstacles!. I know that I have given my therapist journal entries in the past when things seemed just too difficult to say out loud!.

3!. Make sure you like your therapist!. You don't have to see the first one you meet!. All therapists are not, unfortunately, created equal!. If you "click" with your therapist you're likely to get more out of your treatment!. My therapist, for instance, knows that after having a "heavy" session, my next session I am likely to try to avoid too serious topics and she adjusts to that!. It makes me feel safe, and not pressured and aids in my treatment!.

I hope this helps and good luck!. Depression can be dealt with and you can recover!. Another suggestion I have is to seek help from a psychiatrist as well!. He or she is a medical doctor with a specialty in psychotropic medications and there are many good anti-depressants that can also help you overcome this depression!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It all depends on finding the right therapist who understands you without judgement and your willingness to be helped!. The point is to get an objective opinion free from any emotional ties or judgement!. You may even find help from friends or family you trust and save some money in the meantime!. "Therapy" can be a waste of your precious time and money (unfortunately it may take several sessions and plenty of money to realize it), but that isn't always the case!. There are therapists out there that know how to help people in a compassionate way!. Teenage years are no fun at all when it comes to inner turmoil!. Hormones are constantly fluctuating and adjusting and make your thoughts and feelings go crazy at times, though you may not realize your hormones are controlling them!. This is the essence of the teenager!. And it has nothing to do with negativity you might receive from adults who try to make you think there is something wrong with you!. Hormonal changes are necessary for everyone's development during the teenage years!. Expressing yourself freely to someone you trust and who is open to you can help tremendously and it doesn't necessarily have to be someone you pay because they have a degree!. It helps to get your depressing thoughts out of you, so they don't bare so much weight and will help you rationally decipher your situation!. Follow your gut, it won't mislead you ever!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, therapy can help, but as others have noted, you have to be honest with yourself and with your therapist!. Attend your meetings on a regular basis, don't skip any, and do your homework!.

Because I practice CBT, I feel it is one of the most effective therapies, is relatively short term and cost effective!. Also, CBT does not recommend or need meds to create blocks or provide artificial euphoria!.

If you feel you do need therapy, either talk with your school counselor or family physician, and ask for a referral!. If you go through the phone book, don't just go eny-meeny miny moe to chose one!. Also, depending on the basis of your depression, you MIGHT be more comfortable with a counselor of your own gender!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The best thing I ever did,
go into it with an open mindWww@Answer-Health@Com

therapy really works for me, i go once a week and its begining to turn my life around!. i've suffered from depression for years and was very close to suicide!. i kept everything bottled up inside and was so focused on making everyone else happy i forgot about myself!. everyday i thought about killing myself!. it was pretty awful to go through!. but now thanks to therapy i am starting to see all the good things about me and i am no longer suicidal!. it has saved my life to sat the least!. i'm really lucky to have a really good therapist, it's amazing to have somewhere where i can talk about how i really feel!. it takes time and a lot of effort!. but it is worth!. i cant but a price on what it has done for me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
