How early can OCD be diagnosed?!

Question: How early can OCD be diagnosed!?
My 4 year old definitely has had something going on for the last week or so!. I don't know if it's OCD, but it started with him obsessing ENDLESSLY about some berries he touched in the yard, because a neighbor girl told him something about how some berries aren't safe!. He hasn't stopped worrying, crying, and asking me about berries since then!. And it addition, he is now obsessing over touching anything, He walks around with his fingers spread apart so they won't even touch each other!. He spent ALL day today telling me every single time he accidentally touched anything!. "My shoe touched my leg" "My finger touched the chair" "I stepped on that towel a little" I have to have said more than a hundred times today, "That's OK!" It's exhausting, and I have no idea what to do about it!. NOTHING I say makes him relax and feel better about any of it!. I'm at a loss! Help!Www@Answer-Health@Com

He may be OCD, but it seems a little odd that it would come on this suddenly and this young!. I would suggest really really talking to him about what the girl said!. she must have scared him to death! You might try playing a game with him where you get points or a prize for touching the most things in the room or something!. an M & M for each thing touched for example!. let him win and you moan and groan about not getting as many M&M's as he did!. My guess is that he has gotten on this kick for whatever reason and hopefully it will pass!. I would watch him carefully, though, this may be the first of many obsessive incidents!. If it continues and doesn't pass, or if it comes up again, I would suggest counseling!. OCD is primarily an anxiety issue and it may be that he is worried about some things that he needs to talk to a professional about!.
My son is OCD, but it didn't show up until he hit puberty!. Prior to that, he was a little high strung and a worrier, but not really to that extreme!. He is on medication now and is doing great, though!. I would just hate for you to jump the gun and do something drastic about this if it is just a passing anxiety issue!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

He may just be responding irrationally because what the little girl said upset him or caused him some anxiety!.

I would only start to be concerned if the OCD continues over a long period of time and begins to manifest itself in other areas of his life!.

Children can be very sensitive to events and experiences at times, so I would just be observant, you know him best :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yeah this sounds like something you might want to take him to the doctor for!. I think I was around 7 or 8 when I found out I had it and it did begin with something that scared the crap out of me!. So yeah take him to the doctor and find out for sure!. Hope he doesn't have it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i think this is what probably just kids do!. i bet you played the game where you try not to step on the lines of the pavement when you were little!?

i bet its the same sort of thing!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
