I'm having memory problems...?!


Question: I'm having memory problems!.!.!.!?
Hi, I'm a 17 year old male(yea, I know) and i'm having memory problems!.!.!.
For example, like if I use the bathroom and leave out, I won't remember if I flushed the toilet or not so I have to go check!.

And when I brush my teeth in the morning, I can't clearly remember later on that I did or not!.
Or if I come in my room to look for something, I quickly forget what I'm actually looking for, so I have to think really hard to remember!. Also sometimes I forget and leave things in places, and end up buying it again because I forgot I already have one, say like a soda!.!.!.

And there are some other things I can't remember right now that I'm concerned with!.!.!.
What should I do because I don't want this to get worse!.!.!.

It's not so much memory problems your having as just a form of forgetfulness!. The majority of the things you listed are everyday activities that your brain doesn't really focus on storing in its long-term memory!. I'm sure you've heard the jokes about women who wonder half the day if they've turned the straightening iron off, or the coffee pot!. With all you have going on the brain doesn't bother storing that for later recall!.

What you can do to help that if it bugs you so much is do daily memory exercises, play games that require you to think and plan ahead while remembering what you've already done (strategy games and the like)!.

As for the bedroom thing, I do that all the time but think about why you've forgotten what you seek!. What were you doing when you thought about it!? Probably a hundred other things, or it wasn't so important that the brain really cared about keeping it in the short-term!. It's more like a fleeting thought, in one ear out the other!. You think !.!.!. oh I need my sneakers from the closet!. By the time you get to the closet you've thought about a whole slew of other things and the sneakers, which you didn't need righ thtat second, are already out of your mind!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i can totally relate!.
happens to me all the time!.

I walk into the kitchen then i forget what I came for!.
I put my cell phone in the charger and panic thinking I lost it!.
I walk around the living room looking for the remote when it's in my hand!.
the list is endless!.

Well, my mom always tells me to drink more water, because it helps to clear the mind!. Not sure if this will help but I read on MSN that blueberries enhance memory!.

Seriously though, get more sleep and drink more water!. (really- water is my personal key to mental clarity)!.

To me, it sounds like you mind may be preoccupied with other thoughts!. Stress, of course, does tend to disrupt the functions of the memory, and can cause you to forget a lot of mundane things!. Think of fight/flight!. If you were a warrior in battle, would you be thinking about whether you brushed your teeth or not!? The brain responds the same way to everyday stress as a defense mechanism to help you focus your mind on what's really important in your environment here and now!. What I recommend is that you practice relaxation exercises such as progressive relaxation and meditation to calm and steady your mind!. Considering your age, it is highly unlikely to get worse, and will probably go away soon!. However, maintaining a relaxed mind may help to speed up the process!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i think what you are experiencing as memory problems sound a little more like anxiety!.!.!.!.!.and I guess my question would be, what is happening in your life that your are preoccupied with such small stuff!.!.!.!.like if you flushed or not!.
sometimes when we do the same things over and over, our daily routine things, it is hard to remember, cuz they all run togeher cuz their just stuff!.
so, why is it bugging you so much!.
it could be simple distraction
it could be that you're not sleeping well, which effects memory
it could be that your on autopilot, like most of us are
it coud be that you got it stuck in your brain that you can't remember, and now your real self conscious to make sure that you remember and are constantly testing yourself!.
sounds like anxiety to me!. I would let it go a bit, and monitor it!.
perhaps the more you relax about it,,,,,
the more you'll see it's nothing!.!.!.!.just a day to day thing!.
ps!. could be related to MEDICATION---side effect!. if your on any medication!.
