Question: I want to stop cutting!!?
But i cant!. i stoped for about the last two months!. i cut my ankles and my inner thigh!.today is the first day in a while that i have done it!. the rush i felt was so pleasing!. i cut myself three times today!. no one really knows about it except maybe my sister!.(she has seen the scares and askes about them) but i blow her off by starting a fight just to change the subject!. i really wanna stop!.!.!. i need to hear from people that cut or people that has cut and stoped 4 good!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've been there! I was a self-injurer for a few years!. The first thing you need to do is TELL SOMEONE!. Keeping this to yourself is only feeding into the disease!. There is no shame in asking for help!.

If you tell someone (your parents) and they get angry, don't believe you, or won't help you, then you need to find a way to your local crisis center or ER, immediately!. Call an ambulance if you have to, your life is worth it!.

Some people don't necessarily need intensive treatment and/or drugs, but it seems as though you may need to seek counselling!. In counselling, he/she will help you find a "coping method!." This is like your golden ticket! Once you find a way to cope that works for you, it will seem like your just turned completely around!.

I know this sounds silly, but when I get upset enough to even THINK about cutting, I physically remove myself from the situation (leave the room, or if that's not possible, just turn your back to the "problem"), and then I begin to recite the names of every city I can think of!. It's such a mindless activity, but it gives me just enough time to recover!.

Look, its not going to happen overnight, it takes time and hard (mental) work on your part!. But recognizing the problem is the biggest battle in the war, so hang in there!. You can beat this!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think most people who cut need to get some outside intervention!. My friend had to!. She couldn't stop on her own!.
It's an addiction, an addiction to endorphins and there are few people who can stop without real help from professionals (with any addiction)!.

Basically, you need to stop the need for the addiction, not substitute a different behavior for it!. That isn't addressing the cause of the need!. Until you figure out why you like the rush, and how you can overcome the need for it, you won't be "fixed"!. I would seek outside help as soon as you can!.

I have at least a couple of friends that cut for different reasons, usually it's anxiety or depression, but in your case it may be a bit hrder to quit because you do it for the rush!.!.!.

If you find something else to keep yourself busy with you're less likely to think about cutting, just avoid boredom and keep finding things to distract yourself with, eventually you'll find another intrest and get over the cutting!.

I cut for about 4 years and never got professional help once!. But you do have to realize that scars are going to be there forever and you have to explain them all the time!. I haven't self mutilated for about 1 1/2 years!. Every now and then it seems like everything is just not going my way and I walk by the kitchen, see a sharp knife and think maybe just one more time and I will feel better!. But you need to have the mind power to say NO to yourself!. There are better ways!. Try to stop gradually!. Rubber bands work sometimes!. Or hair ties!. If you go to the knife!. don't slice, press in with it until it hurts just enough so it leaves an indention!. Eventually you won't even want to do that!. Feel free to ask me anything you want!. You know, this may be frightening for your sister to see!. Think how hard it is inside of her!. I would be frightened and afraid to tell anyone if I was in her shoes!. I bet she has her own traumatizing thoughts about your situation!. Maybe she is also panicking!. PTSD is very hard unless you talk about it both ways!. For your & her sakes!.

Sweetie, I wish you all the luck!. Try channeling your emotions into something else!. I know how you feel, although I never really cut much, I have friends who have cut and I helped them stop!. You just need to find something else, like for example, beat the crap out of a pillow!. Hey, it's better then hurting yourself!. I dont cut, but I sometimes put myself down for something I did over a year ago, and I have sliced myself with a craft knife before, but the thing is, is it really pleasent when you cut yourself!? Yes, it's possible to stop for good!. I used to cut really deeply and frequently, and now I don't!.

But it's a lot harder to do it alone!. You should really talk to someone about your problems!. People who get help are much more successful at stopping than people who don't!. First, analyze it!. Why are you doing it!? Is something bothering you!? And then try to solve it!. If it is pretty harsh, you should talk to someone, be listened!.
At first, try other things, like pinching yourself (as the one above me said), just keep your health in mind!.

I knew of this person who used to!. She had a lot of frustration in her!. She dis stop!. I guess she opened up to people!. You really need to talk to people about it!. Get blood tests!. Sometimes your glands (like your thyroid gland) can make you act strange!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I cut for 5 years!.

Quitting was really, really hard, as it became addictive!. Just when I thought I was done, I'd fall back into my old habits!. I finally stopped when my boyfriend became concerned!. I saw how much I was hurting him, and I realized that I was projecting all the pain that I thought I had been directing inwards!. I didn't want to hurt anyone else, only myself; I now know that when I hurt, someone else hurts, too, whether you realize it or not!. I gave my boyfriend all my knives, pins, glass, etc!., and every time I felt as though I needed that release again, I would either call him, or go visit!. It helped so much just to have someone be there and be stronger than me, even if he was scared, too!. I have not cut for 8 months, and this is the longest I have gone without self-harming in 5 1/2 years!. I still have urges, but it's not something I need anymore!.

Are you close to your sister!? Ask her to be your strength when you can't trust yourself!. I'm sure she loves you and is concerned for you!. Talk to her!. Show her your scars!. Show her this question, if you need to!. Tell her you need help, and you need her to be there for you!. I'm sure she will be more than willing to do whatever she can for you!.


Also, I'd just like to note!.!.!. Having many visible scars, faded and thin as they may be, has really affected my life negatively!. Not only do people constantly judge me, but I have been turned away when I went to give blood, and I am constantly being questioned by doctors, professors, and coworkers!. It's such a hassle, and it makes me feel ashamed of the problem I had!. You should never feel ashamed! But I do encourage you to get help, in whatever way works best for you!. Cutting may make you feel better now, but it is so not worth the hassle it will cause!

I've never cut myself nor do I plan to do so anytime in the future, so I can't say I know what it feels like!. But in my opinion, it doesn't seem very pleasant!. I'm not completely sure how cutting allows people to feel better!. Anyway, inside of cutting, you should try doing something else to get rid of your anger or sadness!. When I'm upset or mad or something I just go in my room, close the door and listen to music!. Sometimes I talk to people because it lets me get rid of what's making me upset so it doesn't bottle up!. You could also find something that you like to do!. Like dancing for example!. If you start going to a dance class, you can practice moves at home to get your mind off of things!. You could try hiphop dances when your upset or angry because they have really rapid kinds of moves and like battle things!. Number One: You've done half the work already, you've acknowledged that this needs to stop and that you want to stop!.
Number Two: You aren't alone!.
Number Three: Don't look at one answer and say, "that's it!" Try anything!. I have to be concentrating on something so intensely that I can't even think!. Try some of these: Pinch yourself, Journal, do volunteer work, try a new hobby, play a musical instrument, sing, even talk to yourself!
Number Four: YOU NEED TO TALK TO SOMEONE!. I was suicidal three years ago!. I would be dead without my parents and my counselor!. You are cutting, but that's still just as serious!. They may put you on meds- try to remember that this is temporary, and it's not going to take away anything about you!.
Number Five: Find a way to acknowledge your feelings!. Most people cut because they need to feel emotion, a rush, a happiness!. Find a way to get this in your regular life!.
Number Six: Find a safe way to get high- no drugs, no more cutting, no stealing, no choking games!. Live near a six flags!? Get a season pass and roller coaster! Big hill and a bike!? Wheee! A two-liter of strawberry faygo!? Chug it, soda high! Find a way to get that feeling without hurting you and the people you love!.
Number Seven: Find a support group: Not a freaky one where former cutters sit and listen to emo music!. Your friends!. Your family!. People who love you for who you are!.
