A question for all the diagnosed Bipolars out there?!

Question: A question for all the diagnosed Bipolars out there!?
Hi All,

I was diagnosed Bipolar by a Psychiatrist when I was just 17 yrs old!. I am now 30!.

Anyway, do you get days when you feel so low and depressed but not suicidal and days when you feel ontop the world!? I sure do! I am not on mood stablizers but do take two different types of antidepressents!. Sometimes I suffer with paranoia, do you!? Sometimes I have panic attacks too but I try to calm myself down!.!.!.

I hold a full-time job but sometimes it's difficult because there are days when I'm very depressed and hate myself but then again I have days when I totally love myself!.!. Do you ever feel like this!? And also, there are some days where I'm both!.!.!. high and low at different times of the day!.

How do you cope with your Bipolar!? I have never been hospitalized for this and also I haven't seen a Psychiatrist since I was first diagnosed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i was diagnosed with bipolar at 12 and im 17 now!.!.day to day life is hard to handle but seeing a psychiatrist and taking meds would make things so much easier in the long run!.!.you just have to push through side effects and finding the right combination and doses for a while!.!.i have also been hospitalized and gone through this much younger so it was easier - back then no responsibility, job etc!.!.!.its worth the struggle though!. it doesn't always have to be like your feeling i know how frustrating that is, trust me!. and a good psychiatrist will give you something to help you sleep!.!.sleep can have a big impact on how you feel and its important to get a good amount and keep up a good sleep cycle!.!.i would try to see a psychiatrist and therapist and then work on your coping methods!. best wishesWww@Answer-Health@Com

I'm exactly like that without my Lithium to take!. You really need to be on a stabilizer like that!. See a Psychiatrist, it's a serious disorder and can be made so much better with treatment!!

Edit: See a dr who WILL prescribe what you need!. It sounds like the one who won't help you to relax doesn't take the illness seriously enough!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i take meds for mine and te thing is (im also 30 ) is that i have a couple of rules for myself!. dont let this control my life!. 2 i cant live in fear or sadness and three i am not the only one out there and so it is my job to help someone else like yourself so we both can see that this is beatable!. mail me back if there is anything i can doWww@Answer-Health@Com

I have bipolar and was diagnosed at age 13!. My mom didn't want me medicated, so I went through hell in my teen years!. I am now medicated and it has made a big difference in how I feel!. I am now stable!. You might want to start seeing a psychiatrist before you end up hospitalized!.
good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

hi Bell!.!.
I can understand but it sounds like you need to be seeing someone to get the meds but are not on the right meds!. I would suggest getting back to seeing a Psychiatrist again!. and if you don't have a therapist find one!. It is hard to deal with this illness with out being on the right combo of medications!.

Keep working on going to work, and try not to let the downs keep you down from going to work!. You must have been working hard to keep a job!. I have multiple diagnosis and have a hard time working, but I am still trying to get my life on track, find a part time job to help me with my bills!.!.!.!.!.

I am on disability for my mental health!. That helps some, but there are days when I am out of control and go out and spend money like I have it, which I don't!. It has caused a lot of anxiety because I am in debt a lot of the time!. I am hoping to get back on my feet and stay out of debt this time!.!.!.

contact me if you want to talk to someone else with bipolar!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You definitely sound like one of us!. A milder version but definitely ONE of US!.

WHY are you not taking a mood stabilizer!? It will dampen the highs so you don't go PARANOID!. And it will probably minimize the panic attacks!. Both of these are from my personal experience!. (For me, mood stabilizers keep the boogie man away!.)

As far as sleep!. Instead of asking for a sleep aid, don't mention sleep problems!. Just mention the panic attacks and ask for a med for that!. I've found that meds for panic attacks is usually all I need for sleep unless I'm going manic (and then multiple doses of sleep pills probably won't put me down for long)!.!.!.

You sound like you are MOST fortunate to have a milder version of the disorder!. Take care of yourself and watch your triggers!.!.!. You never want to get to the STATE where hospitalization is needed!.!.!. With us, it seems like once we reach a new level its harder to avoid those wider mood swings!.!.!. I think its called kindling!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

See a psychiatrist ASAP! Bipolar is nothing to mess with!. I've had days when I had boundless energy (I'd be awake for 72+ hours, then crash and burn for 12-24), and lows where I couldn't even get out of bed!. Sometimes, I'd have suicidal thoughts, but often lacked the energy to put a plan in action!. I've been on Xanax, Zoloft, Zyprexa, Lexapro (bad reaction that one), BuSpar, all the tri-cyclics, Valium, Lithium, and nothing worked!. I just started Prozac, so wish me luck!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My mother was bipolar, just never diagnosed!. She would be so depressed some days the she just wouldn't get out of bed or off the sofa!. Other days, she'd clean the house non-stop for 24 or more hours!. She also had an anxiety component!. If we were sitting at the kitchen table talking and the phone rang, she'd shriek or scream!. She finally got some tranquilizers which helped some, but the whole bipolar thing wasn't properly diagnosed or treated!.

I have anxiety, but (gratefully) the bipolar skipped me!. My 34 year old daughter has it, though!. I saw signs when she was a teenager and before!. When she's in a manic phase, she talks incessently, cuts her hair, gets a new dog, buys a new car -- and a hundred other things!. When she's depressed, she's lost her job, left her husband, and yes, even threatened suicide!. She refuses to take any medication for it, she thinks she can handle it herself!. I'm very afraid for her!.

Bipolar disease does not resolve itself!. Without medication, it always gets worse -- always!. It sounds to me like this is indeed what you have, and may also be combined with anxiety and panic!. Do you ever have "rapid cycling" where your mind races, you can't seem to focus, and you go from up to down back up over and over again all in the same day!? Honey, please see a psychiatrist, don't wait until you have to be hospitalized!. Your life will be so much better and so much easier to live!.

Good luck, I wish you the best!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It sounds like you are not familar with the Kindling theory!. It is backed by some credible reseach and carries weight in the psychiatric community!. The theory is that antidepressants cause rapid cycling in those with bipolar!. These links are to the US National Institutes' of Health/Mental Health repository of medical reseach!. http://www!.ncbi!.nlm!.nih!.gov/pubmed/15737!.!.!. http://www!.ncbi!.nlm!.nih!.gov/pubmed/79725!.!.!. Amitriptylne, btw, is a tricyclic!. It is not a particularly good choice for you!.

See a psychiatrist!. Lamictal is a good mood stabilizer that has a strong antidepressant effect!. It has the lowest side effect profile of the stabilizers, is side effect free for many, and may be all you need!. There are other stabilizers that can be very effective with minimal side effects!. A pdoc also will give you something to help you sleep!.

I went undiagnosed for many years!. I was about like you in my early 30s only no antidepressants!. I started antidepressants when things got real bad!. I then cycled more frequently!. Ultimately, an AD finally sent me manic!. Now, without stabilizers I'd cycle every week, and I don't mean an easy cycling!. I take a lot of drugs that I wouldn't need if I had started at 30!. I regret having waited!. Spare yourself that future!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
