Have you ever been to the mental hospital / psych ward? Was it helpful? What was!

Question: Have you ever been to the mental hospital / psych ward!? Was it helpful!? What was your experience!?
I've been a few times!. The nurses, staff & doctors are very abusive & hateful!. In my experience, they looked for excuses to push your buttons, just to make you stay longer!. They yell @ you & slam the door in your face when you ask for toiletries!. When they give you the injection cocktail, they laugh wickedly, like it's SO funny!

I really don't find it helpful at all!. It feels like I'm in jail or @ a detention center or something!. Can't do anything!. Can't go anywhere!. Trapped!. Can't eat what you want, when you want!. Food is wrong temperature nasty!. Milk too warm, oatmeal too cold!. I understand it's a hospital, but still!. I can't listen to my music!. In a regular hospital for medical reasons, they ket you keep all your belongings!. In mental hospital, they even take your ID cards & everything!. They don't care what bills you owe, which push you further into debt!.

BTW, what's the significance of people who are in the Trauma program to use computers!? Why can't others use them there!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Yes, they accuse anything they don't understand or that sounds 'bizarre' to them paranoid or delusional!. In fact, if you have thoughts that are outside the norm at all, they will prescribe an antipsychotic, which is supposed to suppress dopamine (a neurotransmitter implicated in hearing voices)!.!.!.!.!.quite a stretch there!.
They overmedicate!.!.!.!.i was in a psych hospital once and found the experience unhelpful!. They did not have any structured activities, except for an arts and crafts class which was like kindergarten and a progressive relaxation group which was basically "breathe deep!.!.!.!.and you will feel better"!. Nothing insightful or technical!. It was really dumb!.
The food wasn't that bad!.!.!.!.!.we had access to the general hospital cafeteria which had an array of food options!. The RNs on duty!.!.!.!.!.!.a few of them seem to have true contempt for the mentally ill!. (Studies show that they actually have more contempt than the average person)
It was awful feeling like my life on the outside was suspended!.!.!.!.i could not solve my problems out there when holed up in a ward full of shrinks that did not care about the real issues!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

THIS IS WRONG!. This is not at all the experience you should have!. You need to report this hospital immediately!. You need to make a detailed list of everything that happened there!. You should have signed a piece of paper listing your rights as a patient!. This behavior is completely against those rights!. According to ethics, you should report this immediately!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ive been to a mental hospital!. i was there for 10 days!. MY trip there was quite different from yours!. The place was amazing!. I actually felt safe and happy there!. i liked it!. I hope you dont have to go back!. or you can find a better hospital!. The one that you were going to sounds very bad!.
good luck and i hope that i helped!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i was in one about four years ago and i was treated really well but didnt get any counsicling till the fifth day!. but it was ok i was greatful i went or i wouldnt be hear writing to youWww@Answer-Health@Com

This all too true!. Be Wise be careful and get out soon!. You will recover with a new friend!. The dark secrets you wont need !. God you are in hell I know it!. Never tell evermore!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My teen was in 2 different places!. He was treated respectfully in both of them!. He liked one place better because it was smaller (only 4 beds total)!.

I don't know how old you are or who picked where you had to go!. Isn't there somewhere else you can go!? I would never have sent my son back to such a place, even if he was just making stories up about the place, because I would assume he just had bad feelings about being there!.

FYI, my son is 16 and he has been doing GREAT and living a totally normal life for the past year!. He was bipolar and hallucinating a few years ago, but now he only has a Mood Disorder because his diagnosis improved after we found the right meds for him!. He's out now with his dad, learning to drive a car!. :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I only had to stay for a 3 day weekend!. I was under observation because of my depression and suicidal thoughts!.
They did nothing at all for me, I would have been better off staying at an expensive hotel for two nights!.
The staff was for the most part ok!. There was a mean night nurse who I saw carrying a pillow and blanket for herself so she could sleep while working!. There were also a few really great nurses, I could tell the real caring and compassion from the false fronts put up by the other nurses and aides!.
The funny thing was that if they were looking to see if I would attempt suicide while I was there they were crazier than any patient!.
I did manage to think of two ways and it's possible that if I wanted to I could have easily killed myself!.
If it ever happens again I won't go peacefully with the deputy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hm!. I have been in the hospital 6 times and never had any of the experiences you did!. Most were fine!. The staff was very helpful and some were caring!. The therapy was useful and the helped me to feel better!. We had arts and crafts and movies and game times!.

I always gained weight because the food was good, plus they give us snacks from the snack counter like 4 times a day!

The only thing that sucked was the bed checks because they would come in every 5-15 minutes and it would wake me up!. But that's the price of being in a mental hospital!.

They did take anything like curling irons or things that you could hurt yourself with!. They kept those in a locker and then gave them to you and watched you use them!.

In my experiences, the more trouble you cause, the more trouble you have!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
