Although you may have an issue with dissociation, it is extremely unlikely, given your description, that you have DID (the current name for multiple personality disorder)!. If you had DID, for example, you would find that you have large chunks of time that are completely unaccounted for - you might find clothing in your closet that doesn't belong to you - you might suddenly "wake up" in a place and have not the slightest idea how you got there - others might call you by a different name which you do not recognize!. In addition, with DID, the average number of "alerts" is around 8!. It would be exceptionally unusual to have a 2-alter (e!.g!., sara and nana) system!.

It does sound, however, like you are struggling with some ego identity type issues!.

The wise course of action, is to request that your parents allow you to seek psychotherapy!. Dissociative experiences are more common in those with co-existing mood disorders (e!.g!., depression)!.

Why don't you see a school counselor!? This is really something you need to discuss with a professional!. And you should strongly consider telling your parents, regardless of your teenage privacy issues!. You won't hate them that much in a few years, and you need some help here!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it sounds like you do!.

if you don't remember what you do in the various personalities, yes, you should see a doc!. but if it doesn't bother you, why see a doc about it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Dissociative Identity Disorder is a very rare diagnosis - so it is highly unlikely that someone who genuinely has the disorder will answer your question!. In most cases the person is unaware of the other personalities!. It is brought on when a person is put in situations of extreme stress (like severe and ongoing childhood abuse) and the only way they can cope with the situation is to disconnect from it!. It is a very controversial subject - some psychiatrists doubt it even exists!. Try doing some research on it at *credible* websites, you might find it interesting!. And yes, you should talk to a doctor if you are serious about it!. They are they only ones qualified to diagnose you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Every person with DID or MPD is different since the abuse that caused the person to split is unique as far as age when it happened, severity and amount of time around the abuser!.

People with MPD/DID are extremely intelligent, caring people!. Only a professional can diagnose this condition!. If you feel that you are DID, you need to be evaluated by a professional!.

DID is a survival tool, not a classic mental illness and treatment does help!.

Good luck,

I was diagnosed with DID about 8 years ago, although at this time I am co-conscious with most of the alter personalities that exist internally!. I don't know if you have DID, but you do sound like you may be dissociating, but you can do that with other disorders!. If you were DID you would be "losing time" -- a concept that means you are not aware of what is going on when the others are out!. For example, when I was in graduate school there were times when I would be told about meeting with friends on campus and have no memory of having been on campus that day! That was because one of the others had been out and handled that day or longer!. There were conversations I missed, events that we have little to no memory of and more -- that thanks to the alters telling us a little about the events -- or thanks to photos friends took -- we know these events happened, but we can't honestly say we recall them!.

I think you need to ask your folks to take you to a doctor for an assessment and evaluation -- tell your doc what you have told us and s/he will probably refer you to a counselor!. That person or a psychiatrist is best qualified to say what disorder you have, not someone here!. Most folks with DID have early experiences with trauma that caused them to construct the alters to cope with situations they couldn't handle!. Alters are a coping mechanism, and one that is not functional at all times!. Please ask for help!.!.!.because you are dissociating it seems, but I can't say if you are DID or not, I am not qualified to make that judgement!.

Best of luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
