Music and depression?!


Question: Music and depression!?
I just wanted to ask if other people suffering from chronic despression, have to be careful with what they listen to!?
I've had depression now for 15yrs and my doctor says I will most likely be on medication for the rest of my life (this is mainly because I spent a lot of years denying what was wrong and refusing any help)!.
Anyway, the other week, I was on Youtube (previously haven't been there a lot) and discovered all these favourite songs of mine!.
I never realized how many of my favs were songs about sad events!.
So by the end of the afternoon, I was totally wrecked and it took (quite literally) days to recover!. I do recall after I saw Saving Private Ryan, it was several days before I could talk about it without starting to cry again!.
Has anybody else noticed anything like this!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Chronic depression and reactive depression should be differentiated!. I would actually call a your experience a sensory induced sadness!. I think it healthy to cry!. Hope you cry when the feeling is evoked by the music you choose to experience!. I do not think you want to be "happy" at expense of losing your sensitivity!. Furthermore, you are saddened by an experience recounted in song that is not egocentric to you!. So you are not self indulgent; but, compassionate to other people who are suffering!. I would, in perfect candor, consider that a positive feeling!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

When I listen to sad songs I crawl back into an episode!.
But it's not just that!. When I'm already there, these songs bring me back to a level I can deal with!.

If you can control your feelings when you see these videos or hear these songs, you'll be okay!. :) Sometimes there's a memory attached to the song that triggers our feelings and it's best just to avoid it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

YES!! Stop listening to it- really I can listen to a particular song and it is like sadness (or happiness) washes over me- music, smells and things like that can trigger memories and change moods easily-Www@Answer-Health@Com

Recently I discovered that I get energised by spiritual;hymns with upbeat!. Otherwise I stay in bed very depress!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
