Does St.Johns Wort work at all?!

Question: Does St!.Johns Wort work at all!?
I feel depressed and confused, I know I have very low serotonin, will st!.john help me!.!.!.!.are there any other herbs or supplements!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Personally, I think herbal remedies only work because of the placebo effect!. Your best bet is to exercise, eat correctly, and attend therapy!. If things get really bad, medicine is also an option, but in my opinion, you should try exercising/eating well/counseling first!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Depression can be caused by a number of different factors!. Some of them are biochemical in nature, but even then, there are different neurotransmitters that can be to blame!. Some of the most commonly indicted in depression are serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine!.

St!. John's Wort has been tested against a type of antidepressant known as SSRIs and have been shown to work above placebo in many trials and as good as SSRIs in other trials in the treatment of mild depression!.

The important thing to note here is that is has only been known to be effective for mild depression and not severe depression when suicide is a risk!.

Other natural remedies that have been used are SAMe, which is an enzyme that helps synthesize neurotransmitters in the brain, and 5-HTP, which is the body's precursor to serotonin!. They are often supplemented with folic acid a vitamin needed for the proper brain function!. The studies I have read have indicated that St!. John's Wort with folic acid supplementation seems to be the most affective!.

It is also important to note that St!. John's Wort should not be sued in conjuction with other antidepressant medications such as SSRIs or MAOIs!. It has also been shown to increase sun sensitivity so those with lighter skin would want to be more cautious!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

St!. Johns Wort didn't do a thing for me!.

A few years back the F!.D!.A!. restrictions got loosened so you didn't have to prove your product actually did what you claimed it did!. Nowadays, you can sell it as long as it doesn't hurt people!.

Read the labels!.

"These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA!. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease!."

of course, there is always the placebo affect!. If you clinically
depressed it is going to be more difficult than that!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

What one drug or herbal remedy works for one person may not work at all for someone else!.!.!.!.it's really all trial and error!.

St!. John's Wort has been shown to be semi-effective for very mild levels of depression!.

If you are struggling on deeper levels, I would suggest seeing a psychologist or psychiatrist to assess your problems further!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
