I think I have depression, but my shrink says no?!

Question: I think I have depression, but my shrink says no!?
I think I have depression!. I feel worthless and suicidal and little things upset me more than they should!. This has been going on for a very long time now!. I think my brain has figured out how to protect me from it; to stop me from hurting myself!. I think my unconscious mind has figured out how to numb the pain at times!. But it's always in the back of my mind, and it often gets dramatically worse than just dull pain!. Sometimes I wish I had the courage to kill myself, but I remember how many people I'll make sad, and how I'm not worth that!. I also feel tired and get stomach aches more than normal and I know that that's also a symptom of depression!. Well, coincidentally my mom made me take a psychology test (mainly as a precaution in case I have ADHD!. What the heck!?) and nothing came up!. Zippo!. No depression, not even ADHD! NOTHING!. And it's upsetting me because I know that a normal person is happier than I am and!.!.!.I just want some opinions, K!? I'm a 12-year-old-girl and I'm confused!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You most certainly do have depression, and mine began when I was 11, I am now 42!. Go to a different Doc, a Psychiatrist!. You need to be on meds, safe for your age!. Since you also having physical symptoms as well, there are many medications that can help you!. sounds as though you are also suffering from chronic anxiety!. you do not have to live this way, depression strikes people of any, and ALL ages!. please go to your school nurse, and make an appointment to find a different Doctor, one who will take you seriously, this is a real, and very debilatating disorder, if left untreated, please don't let it get to that point!. I almost killed myself at 13 because of this, until my Doctor finally took me seriously!. Believe me, the meds are much better now, then way back then!. Good luck hon, you do not have to suffer, or go this alone!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

A psychology test can't diagnose depression any better than the man in the moon!. Depression manifests itself in different ways and a written test or on line test isn't a very accurate tool!.

Perhaps you should talk to a trusted adult relative, teacher or pastor to get them to talk to your parents about getting you some help!.

My husband and oldest son both suffer from chronic depression so I know what it can be like!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Wow I would switch to a different therapist!. I'm not sure that the one you're seeing know's what the heck he/she is doing!. It's clear that you are suffering from depression or some other similar illness!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

try watching anime, read manga or play videogames, it might take your mind off these kinds of thingsWww@Answer-Health@Com

don't worry be happyWww@Answer-Health@Com

you have to suffer a lot longer before it becomes apparent enough to be diagnosed!. heh, yep all us psychologists want to see a little suffering before we treat!. j/k I am a fourth year college student in the psychology field and while I can say that suicidal thoughts are not normal, I cannot say definitively (from the info given) that you do or do not have depression!. You may have depression, but the diagnosis requires you have been in the same depressed mood for a long time (over a month) without any good days basically, before it can be said you have depression!. And even then!.!.!.!.it has to happen more than once!. Blah, as unprofessional as this answer is for someone who is closer to being a psychologist than not, I have Major depressive disorder so that is where I am going to pull the other half of my answer from!. I was depressed a lot as a kid and then it would get better up and down but no one knew!. High school was really rough emotionally and I was suffering really bad from 14-17!. then when i was 18 my friends at college made me go see a counselor there!. so, many years and 2 suicide attempts later I got a diagnosis and treatment, Yay! My advice: do whatever you can to make yourself happy, and if it doesnt work go see the "shrink" again and tell him about it!. At your age your body is so crazy with brain chemicals, but you may balance out in a while!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

now, im no expert, but i think that you should definately get several opinions!. the psychology test you took could have been innacurate, so i think you should definately take others when you go to the doctor!. also, next time you go to the doctor, tell him about your symptoms!. he can probably get a more accurate diagnosis than any test ever could!.but how long have yoiu been feeling like this!? it could possibly be a depresive episode of bipolar disorder!. i think they can last a year, maybe longer!. well, good luck, and i hope i helped!. =^)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have just answered a very similar question to yours hun!.!.!.so I repeat here what i said:

Your body is undergoing some really MASSIVE changes!. Hormones are flying around like crazy as you change from girl-child to woman - all these hormones are in a state of flux and will balance out eventually, but meanwhile these hormones are making you emotional, angry, depressed and even suicidal!. There isn't much you can do to change what is a natural growing process!.!.!.!.BUT BUT BUT!.!.!.just remember this will pass!!!! Recognise that you are being manipulated by these hormones, tell yourself that "this too shall pass" and hang in!.
My 16 year old step-daughter and I went through this and I could only tell her what I am telling you above!. She recently came for a visit with her dad and I and she said!.!.!."I so want to thank you!.!.!.!.I really was confused and angry and depressed and I remembered you telling me, it will pass!. It made it easier knowing what was causing it and so I got through"
I hope this will help you!. You are not sick!. You are not going mad!. Your case isn't hopeless!. You are not a worthless person!. You are special and you are becoming a woman!!!!
Please trust your Dad &Mom!. You will find if you can just open up to them and try to explain that you are just feeling down in the dumps, unmotivated etc!., they will understand!.!.!. both of them were teenagers too!.!.!.!.once!.!.!.lol!. Tell them you understand that this is hormonal and will pass!.!.!.!.!.that will help them to understand where you are coming from!.
Most preteens and teens are going through exactly the same thing - you aren't alone and you most certainly ARE normal!!
Keep smiling - there is light at the end of your tunnel!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
