Does religion help you with your depression?!


Question: Does religion help you with your depression!?
I don't to be a Q that causes controversy and bashing of people's religious beliefs!. I myself am an athiest and was brought up with no religion whatsoever!.
I suffer with depresion that seems to be worsening!. I do see a doctor and take my meds!. I see in many answers how prayer seems to help!. I've read a ton about different religions and would probably find myself leaning towards Buddhism!. But of course I know you don't just pick one and jump right in!.
How does religion help you!?

i found that through looking inward i found my spirituality

i dont belong to anyone faith but a little bit of all and what i like about each one

my god is the best version of myself that i could imagine and i go to her to ask for advice to confide in and to thank for everything good in my life

i do think that this has helped with my depression

it definatly makes you feel like you have someone watching over you, and it doesn't have to be some big almighty god

I would have to say that it does, because ultimately what you are doing is going out of your home and interacting with other people!. So it distracts your brain of how sad you are!. And some religion places have cookouts, meetings etc!. that are actually fun, so you don't necesarraly need to go for what they teach but also what they do once in a while, will really help out!. And aslo about your meds!. My oldest brother took meds to, but they made him sleepy a lot or would just like really relax him and he wouldn't do anything, so you might want to consider a change in meds to something diff!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Religion doesn't help me at all!. I'm an atheist like you!. I don't think being an atheist is the cause of your depression!. But I do think religion could help you out of it if thats something you believe in!. Its just a psychological thing!. Some people need that psychological crutch!. Its kinda like some kids pretending to have an invisible friend!. God is kinda like that invisible friend, someone that cares about you and listens to you!. Its a comfort for most to believe in something like that!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think believing in a higher power does help with depression!. Knowing I was created for a positive purpose by a loving creator helps me when I need it!. Also changing my perspective help me as well!. Seeing the glass as half full type of thing really works!. I think we get in a habit of seeing the bad side not realizing there is a lot of good that comes out of our situation!.

Hope that helps!. We can only be as happy as we choose to be!. It doesn't happen over night but with persistent practice seeing the good will become habit!.

My mom is Very pessimistic and I was too, I learned it from her!. I decided I didn't want to be like that!. So I made the change myself!. Now I'm told that I'm always Happy, I don't think I'm always happy, I just know it's not the end of the world!. Things always work themselves out!.

Also get involved in activities you really enjoy!. The more you do that makes you happy, the more you look forward to doing it again, the less time you are depressed!.

first of all i think that to solve any deppression you have to rely on your self not anything else like god or medication because medication covers up the problem it does not find the source of the problem and fix what ever is wrong
and Gods!.!. well i am not against religion but i am against certain religions
like the ones with sexist and racial judgment and preferances
i won`t even go into how stupid some are!.!.


but relying on someone to fix all your problems ( like god or a doctor) is not the self empowering way to deal with problems!.!.!.!. ever!.
religion can help you because when you pray you let out all your feelings in a well controled non violent way
but you don`t have to be religious to do that you can simply just write it down because than you can look back and know how you felt and try to figure it out

Religion helps me, as a Christian, to have something to hold onto!. Even if I find things hard to hold my faith sometimes, it's always there for me!. But, if you're an atheist and always have been, and if you're depressed, you may want to get help from both God and a professional psychiatrist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes acctauly it kinda supprisly does!. i am a christian i believe in God and jesus and all of tht but i believe people can be gay and i dont belive the bread turns into the body of christ!. and so on!. but just try reading the bible and writing down some of the qoutes!. it really helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
