Is panic disorder too much for some to handle?!

Question: Is panic disorder too much for some to handle!?
I have had problems with anxiety and panic in recent years, I do feel guilty about it, but I fear maybe it has pushed my mother away, because she never believed in it, she thinks you've just got 'too much time on your hands"!. She would never be helpful or supportive of it, and that exacerbated it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There is no need to feel guilty!. My mother was the same, they believe just because in the scheme of things it's fairly new that it's not a valid illness, it's the number 1 mental health issue in Australia!. You should tell your mother how her reactions make you feel and talk about the effect you feel its had on your relationship, it's very important that you do this because that way you can show your Mum that your legit and she can see the effect this has had on you therefore breaking down a barrier in your relationship and tendingto your anxiety by finding support in your mother!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is a lot for some to handle!. I was friends with a girl that had an anxiety disorder and it was very hard for me!.

I can only imagine a house hold situation, living with someone, must be much harder!.

Your best bet is to face your fear just one time and call a doc to get help!. She started down a healthy road of therapy and meds and is much better now!.

People that don't believe in this are in denile because they have not had the issue to face!. This girl's parents I spoke of earlier were the same way!.

Best of luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Things affect people differently!. That's esp true with medical disorders!. A LOT of people use their conditions as a crutch or an excuse for being lazy and not getting things done!. It kind of puts a stigma on the people who actually DO have a hard time time functioning in life!. Take depression for example, a lot of people will say that it is all in a person's head while others will tell you that it is a genuine disorder!. ONLY the person who suffers from a disorder knows the true severity of it!. Everyone else can only imagineWww@Answer-Health@Com

it is a lot to deal with and it doesnt help when the people you love dont support you!. i have been dealing with it for about two years now and it is extremely hard!. But you have to tell yourself it will get better!. that is what i am working on is having hope that it will get easier!. I know it is hard but i suggest just talking to your mom and telling her how you really feel!.!.!.i wish you the best of luck and just have faith :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

it is cause no one knows whats going on inside of our heads!. people have to learn about it and we have to learn and try to educate ourselves as well as others about it and whene we do have attacksWww@Answer-Health@Com

With hard work and patience it is possible to get a grip on it!. It's not something that happens overnight ither!. Even after you get a hold of it, to keep it there is a battle all in itself!. I've suffered from PTSD, aniexty, and OCD for many years now!. I was put on medication prescribed by a doctor and pushed out the door before I could even ask a question!. Great doctor huh!? Needless to say, I ended up in the hospital not long after due to a bad reaction of the meds!. After that happened I never returned to that doctor, or any other for that matter!. I hated the way the drugs made me feel!. I didn't feel like myself and hated the fact that I felt as if I had no control over my body!. Getting over some of the memories, anixety and panic attacks, and OCD symptoms by yourself is a constant struggle, but it IS POSSIBLE!. You have to have faith in yourself and your divine energy!. Start with baby steps and work to bigger things!. Say your panic attacks make you leave where ever you are the instant you feel alittle anxious!. Instead of leaving right that second, stand there for a full 30 seconds to a minute!. Whatever works best for you in the begining!. Gradually increase the time as you find it not to be so difficult etc!. You can use this example with anything!. Baby steps first!. It also helps to have a support system!. Get your closet friends/family together and tell them of your goals!. Ask them to be supportive!. Your mother needs to be told about these issues!. They aren't going to go away by themselves!. The issue with your mother may just boil down to this!.!.!.Back in her day (no disrespect) things were different, very different!. There was no medication for anxiety or being sad!. All of a sudden a century turns and everyone on the planet has SOMETHING wrong with them!. She may be on to something, but that's not what is at debate right now!. Everyone has some pill or other to take every day!. Maybe if you tell her that you do feel as if you have a problem BUT would like to try and work it out WITHOUT medications!. She may be more supportive of it!. Try it the old fashioned way :] and good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Anxiety is a real problem! it is nothing to blow off!. But with proper treatment anyone can over come it!!! but I'm telling you it is enough to drive insane lol!. It is a horrible feeling and I know because I have been through it! 7 months ago I went through a time in my life where everything was stressful!. One day I drank an energy drink (which have been known to cause panic attacks) and that was it! I couldn't stand up without feeling like I was gonna faint!. I couldn't breath!. My stomach cramped up!. I had chest pain, I felt like I would die(this is also typical of panic attacks) just walking around the mall with my sister!.!.!. For months after that, I would have times where this feeling would come back suddenly but not as bad as the first time!. Anything would trigger these symptoms but I found different ways to cope with this!. I would close my eyes and just breath and try not to think as I'm sure you have yourself!. I would relax myself!. It would usually take about 20mins for it to pass!. There were many times that I almost went to a doctor, but never did!. As I adjusted to all the changes in my life these attacks became fewer and fewer! This took several months but I am much better and I rarely get them anymore!. It is something that one should see a doctor about if it interfers with their life!. I found ways to cope and my pride also prohibited me from seeing a doc!. However if you feel that there is something wrong with you please do yourself a favor and see a doctor especially with a disorder lasting as long as yours has! The good thing that came out of it for me was that I now know what It feels like to have anxiety(because I certainly never felt this before), and I can have more compassion for the patients I treat with this condition! Also, do not feel guilty about this, there are many people who deal with this daily but it is a real problem that can interfer with life! Look up information pertaining to Stress disorders to show your mom how serious it is for you!. You need support not added stress!. Good luck with everything!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Many people refuse to leave the safety and security of their home, for fear of having a panic attack where they can't get immediate help!.

View the techniques for control of anxiety/panic attacks, in section 8, at ezy build, below!. Begin, on this first occasion, only, by holding your breath for 5, or 10 seconds: this will give you the confidence to realise that YOU CAN CONTROL YOUR BREATHING, but not pass out, or die (your autonomic nervous system resumes breathing, if you become unconscious)!. Understand panic attacks, and what triggers them, in your life (if it is unresolved anxiety, or stress, see sections 6, or 42, respectively)!. The paper bag method works for most people: try it!.

If you are fairly suggestible, the following are reliable: http://www!.hypnosisdownloads!.com/
Your last alternative is psychotherapy, to address its fundamental cause: read section 1, and examine the http://1-800-therapist!.com/ website, and use the locators, and phone book!. I used to suffer from panic attacks, until I questioned what had changed in my life, at, or just before that time, to trigger them!. For some people, this is enough!. These days, I have instilled the habit of, whenever a situation occurs where panic is likely, I visualise a large, "STOP!" sign, as vividly as possible, followed by repeating to myself: "stay calm" in my mind!. You could try the same method!. It usually takes 30 - 40 repetitions, for most people, to establish a new habit!. I also suggest that you learn, then practise the controlled breathing technique, until competent, then employ it, at the very first sign of a panic attack!.

Practice one of the relaxation methods on pages 2, 11, 2c, or 2i, daily, and when needed!. Also, give the EFT a good tryout, to see if it helps you!. There is also a version for use in public places, (if you like, you can claim to have a headache, as you massage/lightly tap your temples, but you would then be restricted to subvocalising: saying it to yourself in your mind)!. Section 53, and pages 2, 2!.q and 2!.o at http://www!.ezy-build!.net!.nz/~shaneris also refer: "Even though I sometimes suffer from panic attacks, I deeply and completely accept myself!." Note: the controlled breathing only helps with the symptoms (as do medications/herbal remedies): you need to address the underlying cause, and this requires some form of therapy, and Cognitive Behavio(u)ral Therapy has proved effective!.

Advice from a published psychiatrist on controlled breathing!. (1!.) Get a clock, or watch with a second timer!. (2!.) Practise for 5 minutes, 4 times daily, until proficient!. (3!.) Take a small breath in, and hold it, for 6 seconds!. (4!.) Think to yourself: "RELAX", just before breathing out!. (5!.) Try to feel a sense of releasing tension, as you breathe out!. (6!.) Breathe in for 3 seconds, then out, for 3 seconds!. Try to make your breathing very smooth, and light, as you breathe in through your nose, and out through your mouth, or nose!. (7!.) For the next minute, continue to breathe in, and out, every 3 seconds!. (8!.) Go back to step 3, at the end of the minute, and proceed through to step 7, doing this for 5 minutes!. Use this at the very first sign of a panic attack starting, or any time you feel anxious, or tense!.

Because many people can't access/afford professional therapy, I include the EFT, and EMDR variant for them to try, free of charge!. Cognitive Behavio(u)ral Therapy is generally available in most areas, but EMDR (see section 33) may well be worth trying, and is becoming more widespread!.

(The following is a variant of EMDR therapy, which has been used successfully for those people suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, insomnia, and anxiety: it is easily learned, quick to use, yet can be very effective!. It is easy to be dismissive of such a seemingly unusual technique, but give it a good tryout, for at least a few weeks, to see if it is effective in your case)!.

Prior to using either of the methods in the above paragraph, first sit comfortably, and take a deep breath!. Then, without moving your head, move your eyes from the left, to the right, and back again, taking around a second to do so (say: "a thousand and one": this takes approximately a second)!.

Repeat this procedure (without the words, although you can count, subvocally, if you like) 20 times: "A thousand and one; a thousand and two!.!.!. " and so on, to a thousand and twenty!. Then close your eyes and relax!. Become aware of any tension or discomfort you feel!.

Then open your eyes, and take another deep breath, and repeat step one, closing your eyes, and relaxing afterwards, in the same manner!. Then, repeat the procedure one last time!. Some people may find that this is all they need do!. With experience, you may find that you can practise this in public, with your eyes closed, which greatly widens the window of opportunity for its use, and avoids attracting unwanted attention!. I have found that the 2 - 3 minutes spent using the EMDR markedly reduces distractions to the relaxation process, and is repaid many times over!.

I also use it prior to my chosen relaxation technique, after lights out, at night!. For more about Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing therapy, showing recommendations by those who have used it, including a professional psychotherapist with more than 20 years of experience in that field, see sections 33 - 34, at ezy-build!. She was skeptical, at first, and I remained unconvinced, until trying it, and now I use it twice daily, including after lights out, at night!.

It may also help to minimise, or eliminate caffeine products from your life (coffee can be a trigger) and sugar!. Xylitol, or Stevia is preferable, (health food stores) or fruit sugar (fructose, such as "Fruisana", from supermarket sugar aisles) or even a little honey!. Minimise/eliminate consumption of highly processed foods, particularly grain products, such as white bread, donuts, cake, cookies/biscuits, or anything with sugar!. Opt for more wholefoods, non-starchy vegetables, and fruit!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have suffered from panic disorder for 4 years, and my dad still never understands it!. Ive managed to control it alot better now through, hypnotherapy, cognitive therapy and counselling!. Yes Ive tried it all! I found hypnotherapy worked the best though!. But it is so overwhelming its horrible you can feel like you are going mad, and people who dont suffer it never understand!. I just suggest telling her that thousands of people are treated for it, if you are seeking help maybe your therapist/counsellor can talk to her and get her to understand!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
