Answers:
I've had panic/anxiety disorder for about 12 years now to the point where I had to take a low dosage of medication in order to function and get out of the apartment!. The reason why you have shortness of breath is that you're hyperventilating!.!.!.or sometimes, you're holding your breath!. Sometimes you don't even realize you're doing it!.

I find that doing "belly breathing" helps alot!. Alot of therapists and anxiety experts talk about this too!. OK!.!.!.put your hand on your chest and take a deep breath or breathe normally!. Do you feel your chest rising and falling!? That's normal so it's ok!. :)

To do belly breathing, first put your hand on your belly!. Breathe through your nose and as you inhale, push your belly muscles out!. Your hand will rise as your belly fills with air!. Then exhale through your mouth!.!.!.you can make a "shhhh" sound if you want (some people think this is helpful)!.!.!.and, as you do that, your belly will come back down!. Do this nice and slow a couple times!. I know it's weird but you've done it before!.!.!.babies do it all the time!.!.!.watch them! I like to do this laying down!.!.it just feels better!. As you breathe you can also visualize all the anxious thought going out as you exhale and positive thoughts coming in as you inhale!.

I agree you need to figure out what is making you anxious!.!.!.then again, you may not know!. It took me awhile to figure mine out!. Going to a psychologist or a psychiatrist or doc who specializes in panic/anxiety disorders would be helpful!. They can teach you other relaxation techniques and help you to figure out what makes you anxious!.!.!.!.and yes, you can wake up with anxiety!. Happens to me alot!.

Take care!. I hope you find something that works for you!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Do you get heartburn alot!?If so it could be,Barrett's syndrome!.Which is an actual tightening feeling in the heart, lightheadedness, etc!.I thought I was having a heart attack and that's what it is!.Anxiety, stress can do horrible things to a person!.I would bet you have alot of stress (like all of us!)and it can cause shortness of breath/breathlessness!.You should see a dr!.They'll probably refer you to a shrink though and put you on zanix or paxil or something!.If you drink coffee or high caffeine drinks cut way back!.Try to walk and exercise, learn about calming breathing exercises!.I hope you get rid of it!.!Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is a reaction to the anxiety!. take long slow breaths, very deep, and relax your thoughts about what ever puts you in this state!. Look for the causes of why you let the things on your mind bother you and see if it is really a big problem!. you may be overreacting and can resolve this!. Yes, it can be ongoing!. A doctor can give you medication to lessen the condition!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes that is a sign of anxiety and yes you can wake up with it!. I would see a dr and see if he can give you something to calm your nerves and an anti depressant to help!. Talking to a friend helps and also therapy helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
