Answers:
They can't legally tell your school -- you're protected under HIPPA privacy guidelines -- but you may need to tell your school to get the absence excused, particularly if it's a prolonged absence!. You don't *absolutely* have to tell them, but you run the risk of not being allowed to make up your work or go on to the next grade if you don't have a medical explanation for your absences!.

When you get out of the hospital, you will almost certainly be monitored by outpatient services!.!.!. you'll probably continue to see a psychiatrist and a psychologist, and your parents will still keep an eye on you for quite a while!. There may be some restrictions on what you can and can't do for your own safety!.!.!. but mostly things go back to normal!.

Example: I had a breakdown when I was fifteen, in my junior year of high school!. I was not committed, thankfully, but almost was!. I had to see a psychiatrist for just under a year, and a psychologist for a year and a half!. My parents kept me on a closer watch, and for about a year after my suicide attempt (by pills) all the pills in the house were kept locked up!. If I wanted so much as an aspirin for a headache, I had to ask my dad and he would go outside and get them out of the lockbox in his truck!.

Your results may vary, obviously, depending on the length and the severity of your situation!. But you probably won't suffer too many long-term adverse consequences from your hospitalization!.!.!. at the very worst, you might have to repeat some classes!.

That's the case no matter what your age, really!. That happened to me at 15; I don't think it will be much different for you at 12!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

When you take an overdose there is NO guarantee you will make it out of hospital!. Often overdoses result in death - that is why people take them!.
If you survive the overdose, you will be held in the hospital against your will, and then you will be sent to a pscyhiatric unit for assessment and treatment!. This can last a long time depending on your recovery!. You may also have permanent brain damage, liver, or kidney damage from the overdose!.
The hospital doesn't ''tell'' anyone about your hospitalization!. Your parents may choose to tell your school, or anyone else they wish to when you are under 18!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Bry, The individual's identity and information regarding their mental health and any treatment, including hospitalizations is protected under some strict privacy acts!. Schools are not notified and are not told unless the person or somebody very close to them does the notification!. Even if a school was told, the administration and teachers would have to keep it confidential!.

What happens post hospitalization depends on why it occured in the first place, very likely there would be some intensive out patient therapy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It depends on how old you are!.
You will have to undergo a psych consult where they will determine whether you are fit to leave or whether you need to be admitted and/or require psych consults!. They cannot tell your school but if you are under 18 they can tell your parents (in Canada)Www@Answer-Health@Com
