My neighbour has tourettes, should i report him, OR feel sorry for him?!

Question: My neighbour has tourettes, should i report him, OR feel sorry for him!?
This may sound like i have cold heart, but far from it--since 1991 when i moved into my current address, there was a man across the block that used to scream at himself, someone told me he had tourettes which means unable to control thoughts and scream out what you don't want people to hear, well now its become such a strain on the neighbourhood because its affecting peoples tolerance, every word is a swear word i can't repeat, i can see from my window that hes hitting the walls and kicking himself, its made me worried, my niece turned around and called me a *****, i asked where did you hear it, she said man in the window, a lot of people during the night scream up or down at him to shut up, but he has his windows wide open and seems to ignore his condition, he does not take medication because i once asked him years ago, and he seems to be becoming very very violent to an invisible person, do i feel sorry for him, yes- but the racket is becoming a nightmare for visitors, helpWww@Answer-Health@Com

leave the poor guy alone, its not his fault!. Your the one who moved in near him!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would suggest getting the community bureau of mental health in to help him!.!.!. it doesn't have to be a report as such, but it does sound like he has a tenuous grasp on reality!.

And you can feel sorry for him, certainly, but I don't know that pity is necessarily the best way to go about it!. Empathy would be a bit better!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would advise him to see a psychiatrist and get him on the anti-psychotic Risperdal!. I have tourettes also with no swearing but I take 3 mg's of Risperdal per day and it really helps a whole lot! But I also had severe anxiety with it, so I'm on paroxetine 60 mg's and also I take 2 mg's of clonazepam per day and my tourettes and anxiety really went down, way down!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

johnston1,

I think there is more to this guy than tourettes, it sounds like there is paranoia creeping in!. If all of his stuff is in his apartment or simply words there may be little that the law will do!. He has to be a whole lot worse to have the police haul him away and even then it will probably be a 72 hour hold!.

I have to agree with those that suggested that you think about moving out of there!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You need to report him!. Just because he has an illness does not give him the right to tear down the neighborhood!. He may be unaware that there is another world out there but that doesn't mean he can't receive help!. I would call social services or the police to ask them advice on what to do!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

what u need to do is call department of mental health and fill a report with them due to the problem!.!.!.!.!.!.!.no your not a monster but you got to understand !.!.!.!.!.people with this problem don't have control with out the proper medication and counseling and something hospitalization!.!.if worst comes to worst call your local police department and ask them to step in and assistWww@Answer-Health@Com

It sounds like he needs help!. If he is hurting himself, then hopefully that will provide an opportunity for the police department to be able to offer assistance!.

If they can't, you may be in situation where you will have to decide to move yourself!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

report him, your not a cold hearted monster if u do, your a person lookin out for your neighbor, your family, and even that man!. http://www!.tsa-usa!.org/ has a lot of helpful informationWww@Answer-Health@Com

report him!.
straight up!.

he would never know it was you!. thats confadencial(aka police cant tell who said it!. against the law!!!)

If he has Tourettes it means he can't control some actions--NOT that he can't control his thoughts, as you said!.
It sounds like he has other problems too and that I would report him for!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Report him!. Just because he has a problem, doesn't mean he needs to leave the windows open and subject everyone else to his problem!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Just ignore it!. Pretend like it is just another crazy neighbor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i kno u dont want to be mean, but since it is affecting others
it is best that u report him, and mayb they can get him help & meication!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Reporting him will not cure him!. The police will go to his house!. He will tell them he has tourettes!. They will leave!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would go to his house and join in!. If you cant beat them, join them!. That might make him feel better about himself!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

having an illness is not a crime!.

The cops will do NOTHING!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you can,try get him some help
but you should report himWww@Answer-Health@Com

u dont wanna be mean
but u dont wanna deal with it
MOVE!. lol

Report him!. Thats ythe only way he'll ever be able to get help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

well i think he needs help if hes hurting himself, so you should call someone!.!.!.~xoxo ally*Www@Answer-Health@Com

hmmm!.!.!. I WAS going say that you're being insensitive to this guy but soon as you said that he has all of his wondows open at night- so as not to even attempt to muffle his screaming- I changed my mind!. This man's disorder is unfortunate for him and those around him- but just because he can't control the things he says or when he says them doesn't mean that he can't choose to try his best to impose on those around him!. It might be a good idea to get in touch with your local police department on their "non emergency" line and ask for their advice!. I'm sure they would be able to help you!. And of course if worst came to worst- you shouldn't rule out moving- ESPECIALLY if your neice called you a cuss word!. Kids can't be brought up around that kind of stuff!. On the other hand- this COULD be a great learning experience on how all people are different!. You could explain that this man has a disorder and the things he says are not nice things to say!. Good Luck, this is a tough one!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
