ok here are the facts!. It sounds like you really need to talk open and honestly with your G!.P!. You will not be sectioned, taken to a mental health institution or locked up!. This is generally only done when the patient has either tried or seriously threatens to act out their suicidal intentions!.The first step could either be councilling or antidepressants!. This will depend upon whether there is any family history of the G!.P!.'s diognosis!. There is evidence to support a 50/50 ratio of success with both methods!. Your G!.P!. may suggest other forms activity such as diet or exercise!. Probably they will monitor and want to see u on a regular basis!. Generally there is a specialist in the surgery geared up exactly for your type of problems, maybe ask the receptionist who they consider may be the best G!.P!. to see because u feel your mood is fairly low at the moment!? Dont feel that going to the G!.P!. will hinder your application to be a mental health nurse!. The people who interviewed u and i guess accepted your application would have picked up on potential mental health issues and this is not an issue!. U can express true sympathy with clients because u are there and later have been there!. Where as some others may only be able to express empathy!. sections and referal to psychiatrists are rare and hard!. The system is blocked with problems ranging from government through to finance!. Seeing a psychologist is more likely and being sectioned takes a gp, socialworker and admission onto a unit providing they have beds!. its made difficult because of the law which is good for patient rights!. This however is unlikely, providing you are able to maintain an element of control!. Have a look at mindfulness!. a small word but a very big subject!. distraction methods such as relaxation meditation!. Breathing exercises, going for a walk, cant sleep!? do something for an hour thats productive and mind numbing maybe cleaning or try a warm glass of milk, a soak in a hot bath, find a book that u may lose yourself in!. friends that u may share your feelings!. friends are very important at this point in your life!. either through social interaction or the internet!. Just to express our thoughts and feelings are so important!. It would seem there is plenty of positive support here for u anyway XWww@Answer-Health@Com

I'm not sure about the UK, but it's probabally like the USA!. The doctor would be required to notify a mental health technician to come talk to you, and if they felt you were serious, they would put you in the psychiatric ward for a few days!. Usual stay is around 3 days or so, unless they are putting you on medications, they may keep you longer to watch for side effects!. But you will not be able to leave the hospital until the psychiatrist on the ward okays it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, I agree!. They will ask you maybe a few questions about your past life, how you feel, what you want to happen etc, and then they may send you to see a psychologist as they will be able to deal with it better!. Don't be embarrassed! doctors have had many patients in the same shoes as you!. Don't feel like you'll be feeling the way you are for ever, there is light in the future and you will recover if you try and get some help!. I have had the same experience!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi there, i'm sorry you feel that way!. I've actually have had those "bad thought" for quite along time myself, i'm 19 too!. I've quit courses with out telling people, all my thoughts and feelings i keep to myself!. There are lots of people that feel the same way!. Hopefully your doctor could do something that can give you something or recommend something to live for!.

I really hope you find that something :)!. I know 19 is just way to young, i just gotta convince myself that, lol!.!.!.!.sighWww@Answer-Health@Com

they would ask you a list of pre-designed questions about how you feel and depending on the results they will give you anti-depressents!.

If your doc does this please also insist on theraphy, CBT, it combined with the pills work wonders, trust me and go for it, you have nothing to lose!.!.!.!.!.!.

from my experience, if you went to a doctor and told them, not much would happen!. I think you should ask you GP about going back to CBT, or starting another form of psychotherapy!. Don't be afraid to say you're not ok!. I think if you carried on with support, things might get better for you!.
Good luck xWww@Answer-Health@Com

no matter what country it is, your docter will talk about your issues with you and try to resolve them!.of course,if they feel they are unable to give you professional advice, they may refere you to a psychiatrist!.i notice your asking 'what would happen' as if your afraid of something!.if so,dont be!.these people ,docters, psychiatrists, etc will do what they can to help you!.good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

they would ask you some questions and decide what would be the best for you!.Some might admit you to a hospital to evaluate your behavior and some may feel you need medicine and or therapy!.I wish you the very best and hope you choose to go to the doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

hello I am Rita, a qualified psychiatric nurse and I understand what u are going through - u are not on ur own!. many young people feel suicidal but its good to look at what is positive in your life and what you,as a good person, can help others withWww@Answer-Health@Com

You would be monitor or they would seek help for you!. They should do all they can to keep you safe!. Please stay safe!. God Love You!. Be Blessed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They would probably put you on suicidal watch at the mental institution!. And what could be so terrible that would make you want to commit suicide!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

my friend was kinda suicidal n she was sent to visit a mental place with crazy people she has to go once a month i thinkWww@Answer-Health@Com

He would get you into therapy ASAP!.!.!. atleast that's what would hopefully happen!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you get admitted to psych wardWww@Answer-Health@Com

Not sure as I've never been to my GP and told him/her that I was suicidal!.

I would hazard a guess that they would ask you quite a few questions, and if they believe you are genuinely at risk they would suggest your go into hospital for treatment!. I suspect they would ask you to go voluntarily, but if you refused and they really consider you are at risk of committing suicide they would have no option but to Section you under the Mental Health Act!. However, to do this I believe that two doctors have to agree that you should be sectioned and sign accordingly!. Being sectioned means you have to go, and stay in hospital for a certain period of time!.

Alternatively, you may be referred to the Community Mental Health Team, but that would depend on whether they thought you were likely to actually commit suicide - I cannot see this being an option if they think you are really at risk!.

When my sister was very very low her GP wanted to admit her to hospital although she wasn't suicidal, but I think this may have partly been due to the fact she was quite young at the time!. The thing is not everyone who goes into hospital for treatment is suicidal some like myself the first time have severe depression but are not suicidal!.

When I was suicidal I knew I needed to go into hospital, and was fortunate to be covered by BUPA so voluntarily went into a private hospital!.

Just read your last bit, being hospitalised for depression etc would not prevent you from later on having a career in mental ill-health because the majority of people who work in this field have personal experience of depression etc However, it may be a bit much for you to cope with at the moment when you yourself are suffering from depression!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.it'!.!.!. perhaps a bit too close to home!. But don't despair because you are young and it is always something you can come back to later!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.perha!.!.!. now isn't the right time!.

Also, I don't necessarily think you have Social Anxiety Disorder because withdrawing and not wanting to see or speak to people is also a symptom of depression!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Personally i hate doctors (myne anyway)!. He dosnt care but that dosnt mean all docs are like that!.
If you are feeling suicidal and want help thats a good sign!. Suicide is a cry for help, so tell him/her you need help now!. Make sure you express how bad you are feeling and you really need all the help they can give you!. DO NOT settle for anti -depressants!.
If you feel they dont help you go to the a&e and tell them you need help you carnt go on feeling like this and want them to help you!.
Good Luk!.

Ive just read the rest of your question!.
You sound like you have social anxiety disorder which is causing you to be depressed!. I know what your going through i also suffer from this!.
It dosnt get better on its own it gets worse!. My doc hasnt helped me atall!. I went to the a&e not so long ago because i couldnt take anymore, they presribed me anti-depressants which i threw away and made me an appointment to see a phycolygist!. Im still waiting for this apointment after about 2-3 months!.
I find that getting up and getting on with it helps but also talking to others by email and groups on the net helps too!. Find out all about it and try to help yourself!.
Be strong trust me you must be strong and pull yourself threw this it wont always be like this!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They would probably instantly refer you to either a phsychyatrist (think I may have spelt it incorrectly) or a counciler (think I spelt that wrong too!.!.!.ooopps) for your own safety!.

Life gets really tough sometimes and it seems suicide is the best escape route from all problems, but it isn't, it's better to stand up and face all issues head on!. It may get hard but it's worth it when you get to the other side, when you get to the otherside you will think to yourself 'why did I even consider suicide'!. Trust me, Ive been there!.

If your refering to yourself in this question I hope you feel better soon!.
Best of Luck
