Have I recovered from Bipolar.?!

Question: Have I recovered from Bipolar!.!?
Some weeks ago I mentioned that I stopped taking Meds for Bipolar!. Since I did stop I have never felt better!. I still take the Lithium @ 1000 mg per night!. Stopped Seroquel and Zispin!. Am I under the illusion that I have been cured or maybe could I have a relapse any time soon!. Has anyone else ever been in my position, and if so how long were you well !?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I sometimes stop my meds too!. When I did take Lithium alone, for about a year, it worked very well!. Then other problems started to arise!. Racing thoughts, anxiety, depression!.

So I had to start on Risperdal, Lamictal and Clonazepam!.

Based on my past experience with doing this, my symptoms ALWAYS came back, but not right away!. But you have to remember that this is the nature of Bipolar Disorder!. It comes in cycles!. I have a tendency to stop my meds when I experience hypomania, because simply put, it feels good!. Just because you feel better, doesn't mean you "recovered!."

You will NEVER fully recover!. Bipolar Disorder is a life long illness!. When the time for your mania/depressive cycle comes around again, your symptoms WILL return!. At that point, you will have to wait several weeks for the medications to get into your system again!. By the time that happens, you may risk having to make an ER visit!. If you don't already know, that's NO fun!. For continuous, long-term symptom control, you need to STAY on your meds!.

I hope this helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The body does undergoes biochemical changes and people do come to terms with things that in the past caused mental anguish, so it's possible you have recovered!. But, stress and other situations may still bring out your bipolar traits, so you need to recognize when the symptoms show up and learn good coping skills!. If you're doing okay without the medicine, it's a great time to go see a therapist who can help you develop effective coping strategies!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You haven't stopped taking your meds!. You're still on a huge dose of lithium!.

Also, bipolar people have something called a "maitenence period" where they feel normal between mood swings!. A few weeks is not enough time to say that you're "cured!."

Finally, there is no cure for bipolar!. It is a permanent disorder!. Which doesn't mean it may not get easier with age - for some people it does!. But you will always be bipolar!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

the medicines only dumb down sections in the brain as a person who comes from a family of bio-polar people me being the worst my advice is to try to fin d tranquility or inner peace you can have a relapse on the meds easilyWww@Answer-Health@Com

I hope you spoke to your dr before you did so!. It's unlikely you will be fine if you are really bipolar!. You may be having a good phase but it will likely come again at some stage!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i think you should talk to your doctor as well, because you might not be able to tell if you are bipolar or not,
but yeah!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have never been well and probably never will!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have had bi-polar for 10 years and have always been unwell!.I am at my wits end with medication etc!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think you will be fine!.What does bipolar mean!?O_OWww@Answer-Health@Com

In general, the short answer is no!. Unless you were misdiagnosed in the first place, the likelyhood is you have levelled out momentarily but will relapse fairly quickly!. As a fellow sufferer of almost 10 years, it's never good to stop any of your meds just like that and whilst I've felt the same, I dropped shortly afterwards before entering a psychotic phase!. Discuss it with your shrink or if you have a CPN, with them!. Don't rush in with things and discuss your feelings rationally!. Otherwise you may face the risk of them using it against you!.

Always best to use common sense here but am sure you will!. All the best & hope you can figure this out!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

FDA approves Seroquel and Zispin as adjunct (add-on) treatments to an approved mood stabilizer!. The lithium is the primary medication you are on!. While new clinical studies are showing that Seroquel has some mood stabilizing properties it is not common to use that alone!. Seroquel can also be taken on an as needed basis!. If you begin to recognize manic patterns or other red flags talk to your doctor!. The nature of bipolar includes periods of stability and sometimes lengthy ones!. Since you are on the lithium I do not believe you are in any danger as long as you continue communicating openly with your doctor!. Other studies have shown that every time someone with manic-depression discontinues meds (you have not), the following episodes are increasingly worse!. Visit webmd!.com and go to the bipolar support group message board where you can get and leave advice!. It's a great place to learn and deal with the illness!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you were properly diagnosed, then there is no recovery or cure!. However, it is possible for many to maintain real stability on a single med at a very tolerable dose!. Lithium at a 1000mg may or may not be a lot depending on your serum level!. If you are in really good shape mentally/emotionally w/o side effects, I'd stick with it as maintenance!. It's a good med!. I like it!. I just wish I could loose the other ones like you!. If you go off everything, odds are almost 100% you'll eventually cycle and each time you do so, it does more damage and may ultimately mean more meds to control a worsened condition!. Something to think long and hard about!. Also, don't forget about therapy as needed and ongoing healthy lifestyle!. Those play a real role in keeping the amount of meds down!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
