Why do people cut themselves when they are mad or sad?!

Question: Why do people cut themselves when they are mad or sad!?
I am just wondering I mean I am sad and have been hurt a lot by women and so on but I never thought about cutting myself or hurting myself!. What does it do for them, how does it help!?

It's a distraction, mostly an addiction though which doesn't help!.
I started because of a curiousity to see why people did it!.
Didn't feel any different but now I rely on it!. If something bad happens I think "God I can't wait to get home and cut myself!.!." Or in anticipation for upset I prepare the blade and put it somewhere close!.
It's bad but I can't stop now!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

When people cut themselves its a form of release to take the pain away they are feeling inside!. Its like a silent scream!. It can be a cry for help when someone is feeling desperate, or maybe they are confused about the pain they feel inside and want to channel it a different way by cutting themselves and causing physical pain/injury!.

Self-harm is a very complex issue, people who do this are not well!. I did it for years as a teenager and now I'm in my twenties I regret it so much due to the visible scars on my arms now that will always remind me!.

I do not reccomend it to anyone!.

Anyone who is doing this or wants to do it should seek help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I know that in my past of hurting myself ,I don't realize I'm doing it till its done with!.I done it for many reasons, but what sticks in my head is when I'm stressed about something and I get overwhelmed,I cut!.I also disassociate when its happening!.I seem to come back to reality when I see the blood,or start to feel the pain!.It doesn't help to do anything really!.But I have a really hard time letting my thoughts and feeling show(except to a select few) and I think that is a factor in my cutting!.It is something that is done in my sub-conscience that I just can't control!.I'm receiving treatment for it,and I'm slowing down on it and learning ways to control it!.It also releases a chemical in your brain while doing it!.I can't remember all the specific details of that end of it though!.
Hope this helps!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You have an interesting user name, considering the question you are asking here!.

I work in mental health and I have a history of depression and anxiety since childhood!. When I was in my teens and early 20s, I used to cut!.

We do know that a brain chemical, endorphin, is released in response to injury so the person can deal with the pain!. Most people who cut report a pleasant feeling that temporarily makes them feel better!. I know it worked that way for me when I did it, and I'm reasonably sure it's because of endorphin!.

When I worked for a psychiatric hospital, we had this patient who cut herself so many times her body was covered with scars!. Somebody asked her why she did that, and she said "it's the only time I really feel alive!."Www@Answer-Health@Com

everybodys mind is different!. i use to cut myself, back then it relieved the pain!. Just picking up razor blade and slicing my arm up just released all the tension and frustration in my life!. Now I think back to it and can't even remember how i use to do it on a daily basis!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Apparently it "releases the anger" I wouldn't recommend trying it!.
If you are depressed or upset severely, see a physiologist before you DO hurt yourselfWww@Answer-Health@Com

I did it because I COULDN'T feel mad or sad!. I was completely numb!. So I cut to remind myself that I could still feel!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

To divert their sad emotions to physical pain!.
