How do I try to tell someone I think I have a mental illness?!

Question: How do I try to tell someone I think I have a mental illness!?
Schizophrenia runs in my family, and I'm pretty sure depression does too!. I have had episodes through my life that shows symptoms of schizophrenia!. These past months I've been depressed!. I've thought of suicide, but I don't think I could follow through with it!. I haven't told anyone about my depression, but my sister and friend have asked me if I'm depressed!. I'm afraid of telling some one, especially about the episodes!. I don't want people to see me differently or treat me differently!. I don't want to be labeled as crazy!. I'm only sixteen so I can't just go to a therapist!. I've read up about both, and I know because I'm a teen it's semi normal to be "depressed," but schizophrenia typically shows up in your twenties!. My uncle had an extreme case of schizophrenia that's why I'm worried that, that's what I have!. How do you tell some one that you think you're suffering depression and schizophrenia!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

First of all I don't know what state you live in but most states you only have to be 14 to put yourself into counseling!. I put myself into inpatient mental health at 14 and signed all the paperwork so look into getting help!. The only way you can get help is by telling someone!. If you can't tell your parents go to an adult you can trust and if people judge you or think you are crazy then they don't understand what you are going through!. If you need any help you can email me at anytime and I can try to help to find you some help!. My email is younglove79@yahoo!.comWww@Answer-Health@Com

Before you diagnose yourself, try going to a professional for an evaluation!. You may or may not have schizophrenia!. In terms of how you tell someone you can simply tell them what you are feeling and ask for their support!. A mental illness is simply an illness!. Some people have diabetes or heart disease!. These are nothing to be ashamed of and neither is a mental illness!. Get the help you need!. Manage your symptoms under the care of a professional and live your life!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

JUST TELL THEM! If you do have schizophrenia and/or depression, then you need to be put on medication so that it doesn't get any worse!. Nobody will treat you differently, and if they do, then they're just stupid!. If you take medication, nobody will know that you have schizophrenia and/or depression unless you tell them, so the only ones that would know would be your family and close friends!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I believe you should try to find someone who you relate to and that you really trust!. If this really bothers you then the best thing for you to do is be honest and open about it!. It sounds like you really need to talk to someone that you are close to this would be easier for you and nobody outside will know about it so this should give you some comfort!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would go to your parents and tell them!. Have them take you to a psychiatrist and let him evaluate you!.
The ages that you mentioned above are just guidelines!. Both can show up at any time in your life!.
If your parents wont listen speak to a school counselor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I believe that you should go to a psychiatrist to find out if you really are or not before telling anyone!. That way you can be for sure!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

first, you need to be diagnosed by a professional!. try a school councillor - that's a good choice, at least for starters!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

what is mental "fitness"!? maybe we all have mental illness!. just few of us admit to it!. i'm depressed, and sometimes manic depressive (periods of joy, happiness or enthusiasism)

we never see anyone else 100% of the time!. we can't read their minds!. maybe some "depressed " people are more open and admit to it!.

just keep your thoughts to yourself and try to smile at the world!. the world will smile back!. maybe this will help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You should never be afraid to tell anybody!.!.if anything be afraid if you don't tell somebody!!! This will get worse!!! Trust me I work with the mental health population everyday!. I work with bi-polar, depression, paranoid schizophrenia, personality disorder and on and on!! Please tell somebody!. Just say that you feel very sad, your not suicidal but your sad all the time and it's not situational!. It's a chemical imbalance and there is nothing wrong with that!. You can get better with medication!. Doctors see this kind of stuff every single day!. I have been treated for depression and went to see my doctor and cried the entire time, we talked and he started me off slowly with medication (Zoloft) and in 2 weeks I felt great!. I went to my follow up appointments and he increased me slowly!. Eventually you will start to feel better and could possibly go off the meds and just continue counseling!. Don't be ashamed be strong and fight this!! It's so important you tell somebody now or it will get worse!? Do you parents have insurance!? Just tell your mom or dad or both that you feel embarrassed but it's important that they know what is going on!. I am sure they love you very much and don't want you to suffer with sadness!. You need to get to the doctor first and they can refer you out to a counselor or psychiatrist!. Good Luck sweetie and let somebody know soon so you can get help! It won't get any better if you don't tell somebody!. You can also talk to a teacher or guidance counselor at school!. They are trained to assist you and you can even ask one of your counselors at school to have a meeting with you and your parents!. It might be easier to have somebody else there with you to tell them!. You will get the help you need if you do this!. Good Luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
