Will another doctor prescribe me antidepressants?!

Question: Will another doctor prescribe me antidepressants!?
I've been suffering under depression for about a year now, and recently its gotten to a bad point!. I have never been on antidepressants before, and my family doctor is out of town for another 2 months!. Instead I will be seeing another doctor that is substituting for her while she is gone!. My question is, would this new doctor be able to prescribe me antidepressants, or does he have to check with my family doctor first!? Or in other words is there a chance that the new doctor would prescribe me antidepressants or do I have to wait to meet with my family doctor for them!? ThanksWww@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Doesn't matter whether it is your family doctor or another one!. What is more important is that this doctor listens to your history/symptoms and makes a proper judgement whether you will benefit from medication or not!. Antidepressants usually are given for at least 6-9 months and one should be prepared to undergo full treatment!. A doctor who knows you well is desirable, but look at the other side of the coin; a doctor who does not know you but will listen carefully may make an unbiased treatment decision!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

doctors usually leave notes for their substitutions when they are out of the office for any reason because other wise it would look bad on them professionally!. a new prescription of your medicine should be in your records!. If all else fails, the doctor doesn't say anything about a new prescription for you ask about it!. Tell the doc that your doc gave them to you and that you need more!. Like I said, though, if your doc didn't leave notes for the stand in then it would look bad on her professionally so she probably did leave notes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Assuming that you are in North America, your substitute doctor should have access to your records, and will prescribe the same medication again!. If you have an empty (or even full) prescription bottle to show this new doctor, it will be even easier for him/her to re-prescribe the same medication!. It should'nt be a problem!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your new doctor will be able to prescribe!. BUT if you are depressed and need antidepressants GET a referral to a psychiatrist!.!.!.don't let a family doctor give you antidepressants!. Have a doctor that knows about depression help you!. I have been there and the family doctor can really mess things up!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Have you been diagnosed!? Some family physicians are comfortable in prescribing antidepressants and others are not!. Do not wait!. You may get worse and become unstable!. If your new doctor does not want to prescribe ask for a refer rel to a Psychiatrist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The new doctor can prescribe!. You could also see another doctor if you do not care for the substitute!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The covering doc will be able to prescribe meds if that's what they decide you need!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Since this new doctor is a sub, I think you will have to wait!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
