My spouse is quitting smoking, why am I the one who is anxious?!

Question: My spouse is quitting smoking, why am I the one who is anxious!?
It seems like I am walking on eggshells not to stress him out because I'm afraid he's gonna flip out!.!.!.he's actually been doing good though--not edgy and managing getting past his cravings!.!.!.as a non-smoker I can't really relate to what he's going through and I almost don't know how to act around him!. I have never nagged him about quitting, and won't be upset if he doesn't succeed!. Maybe I am having second-hand smoke withdrawl myself, who knows!? I know I need to lose weight, maybe this is a good time to focus on that!?

We all know smoking is a hard habit to break!. It's worse than heroine ( I think I spelled that wrong, sorry!.) Anyway, we've heard of smokers who have become aggressive once they've laid the cigarettes down!. We are programmed to believe it's this way with everyone!.
Your spouse sounds like he is ready to give it up and not return to it!. It also sounds like he gave it up b/c HE WANTED TO--- very important!. So, he has willpower on his side!. I would encourage him in his endeavor!. I would not comment to him about his not flipping out!. He might have a tight lid on it and be working very hard and any statement about keeping a lid on it, might sound condescending and make him upset!. I would praise his resolve instead!. Please don't act like you don't care either way--quit or don't-- I don't care!.!.!. Quitting is VERY hard and he need support from you!. It's for his health that he quits!. Regardless of who he is, I would not want to see him die in a hospital coughing and choking b/c he can't breathe!.!.!. I would praise his efforts!.
If dieting is going to upset the balance at home, I would wait until he's settled in his quitting habit!. Yes, I said what I meant, "quitting habit'-- it's the behavior he's replacing his old behavior with!. Don't create stress in the home!. Don't fret about your weight right now!. Let him have peace at home while he is exercising his willpower and taking control of this craving that has controlled for however long it has been his habit!. It takes 21 days to create a new habit!.!.!. this is for him quitting smoking and you dieting!.
Most of all, BE THANKFUL, he has decided to quit, before the smoking decided to kill him!. His health will improve b/c of this choice!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

just be supportive of him!. he's trying to beat a chemical addiction to nicotine which is never easy!. since you want to lose weight and your husband quit smoking, why not join forces and start exercising together!?!? he'll be able to release the tension related to quitting and you'll be able to reach your weight goal!. why not!?!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well long as he doesn't beat you I'm sure you can be yourself!.

2nd- hand smoke withdrawal!? I don't think it's that addicting!. Maybe you just enjoyed the smell!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Its all about nicotine withdrawal!.!.!. which is hard! it may take up to 12 weeks to start to feel comfortable with a new lifestyle that is smoking-free!.!. Nicotine is an addictive drug

I hope you can handle it well, and I think you are doing a great job at trying not to upset him!.!.!. thats really awesome :-) Good for you!.!. specially when they go through many stages of physical pain as well as emotional/mental + mood swings + cravings + headaches + fatigue + looking for subs like eating more or so!.!.!.

Also make him know that you are here for him, and planning a diet at this time is good! He will feel loneliness, and with you on diet he will feel better (I think) because you two will be trying to reach a goal

Good luck and all the best ;-)Www@Answer-Health@Com
