If it's true depression, the depression--or the tendency towards depression--exists first!. By definition, depression is not the result of a specific situation!. For example, someone who is extremely sad after a relative dies does not have depression; this is a normal response to a situation!.

However, any event or situation can trigger a person with this tendency into a depressive episode!. Depression means that the sadness felt is prolonged, fits certain categories (you need to either feel extreme sadness or a loss of interest in activities), and while it may be triggered by an event (like a death) it is not proportional to that event!. It can last longer or be more extreme!.

A lot of times people who are depressed believe that their feelings are situational!. For example, for the longest time I thought that my depression was a result of a broken relationship in my life!. However, looking back, I realize that this was not the case!. While this situation aggravated and intensified the depression, I had a lot of these symptoms before and after this problem!.

So, it's very possible that your depression is actually CAUSING you to dislike your physical appearance instead of the other way around!. Either way, talking to someone about this really will help!

Hope this helps!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Some people get depressed by an emotional situation first (i!.e!. family break-up, self image etc!.), this is known as circumstantial depression and causes reductions in serotonin levels in the brain, to varying degrees!.

Others get depressed because of a chemical imbalance in the brain which affects serotonin (a mood stabilizer), this is known as chemical depression and is usually not connected to situations or circumstances!.

You might be suffering from body-dismorphic disorder (which might have already been diagnosed) and I hope you're getting psychiatric help; it's quite common for this disorder to lead to circumstantial depression!.

Take care!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it is the situation that leads to depression!.

in ur case the situation is "I detest my physical appearance" had u liked ur looks there was no reason for ur depression to occur!.

n being up set about appearance is no reason to get depressed!.!.!.!. u dont have half ur face boiled in oil nor r u physically challenged!.!.!. think of ur gifts over ur negative thoughts!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i think it can work either way!. some people are just depressed people!. they've just felt that way most of their life!. others suffer after experiencing bad situations, like losing a job, divorce, etc!.

if you're unhappy with your appearence, try diet and exercise!. exercise is proven to improve people's moods, and you'll be looking better than ever in the meantime!. you could spend a little money on a makeover maybe, something that makes you feel good about yourself!. good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
