Why is it said that people who are bipolar are highly intelligent? Is it true?!

Question: Why is it said that people who are bipolar are highly intelligent!? Is it true!?
Answers:
Part of it's myth, probably because when only slightly manic (i!.e!. hypomanic) ppl with bipolar think very clearly and very quickly often making connections that others don't see!. When depressed or totally manic, that's not the case!. Many with bipolar also are very creative and often successful at it!. There's been research and the results to the best of my knowledge are that those with bipolar tend to have slightly higher IQs but not outrageously!. That's an overall average!. So, like all stats, it's only a generality!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am bipolar!. I have had my IQ estimated to be between 130-160!. I am not certain that there is a connection!. There are many well known intelligent people that have some kind of mental disorder!.

You didn't say for certain that this question was with regards to yourself!. If it is, my best advice is to persue proffessional and pastorial help!. This comes from experience!. Friends are important to you as part of your support community!. But there is a definite physiological component to being bipolar in that brain chemistry has a lot to do with it!.

With proper medication (don't hesitate to tell a doctor that something is or is not working) and good counselling, recovery can be acheived!. A good counselor will listen to you and not try to conform you to some predetermined idea of what you should be!

Another big component is my faith in God!. If you have ever come to know Him, you will know that He is easy to talk to!. If you haven't experienced Him yet, give it a try by talking to a priest, pastor, or rabbi!. My pastor saved my life when I made a suicide attempt!. I had been counseling with him!. When I called him to say goodbye and thanked him for all that he had done, he knew immediately what I was doing and came right over!.

Recovery is not an easy!. nor quick process!. Be patient!. Be communicative!. Become aware of any services that are availible to you in your community!. Establish a network of family, friends, and professionals to help you!. Be patient with some because they might first need to understand what you are going through!.

Prayers for you! Go with the grace of God!Www@Answer-Health@Com

My mum is bipolar, she is a district nurse, she is cleaver but im not sure about being highly intelligent, i think she (and the family) has had a rough time dealing with her bipolar and that has made her a lot wiser than if she had not have had it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes its the same thing with OCD, tends to affect people of a higher IQ, also they are meant to be more creative and have more ability to 'think outside of the box' due to messages in the brain going through more complex thought processes!. hope this helps!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think bipolar sufferers have all kinds of intellectual abilities!. Although we tend to be more creative than normal people, ( probably due to mania)!.The above individual is correct, I`m thinking very clearly and concisely, I`m feeling hypo manic!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think alot of people with any kind of imbalance often show streaks of brilliance!. They often have much energy in one way or another, but it's often imbalanced!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Not really sure if that's true or not but very interesting!. I would think it depends on what type of intelligence you're referring to!? Like IQ or say someone being very artistic!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
