Does anyone here have borderline personality disorder?!

Question: Does anyone here have borderline personality disorder!?
There's a character in my novel that has this mental illness and I want to make sure it's as real as possible!. I don't say he has it because it wasn't diagnosed in the 19th century, but even so, I want readers to be aware that he has what he has!.

Basically, how does or how did it affect your life!? Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi,

I have BPD and will try to explain the traits and how they effect me as best I can to help you, although this is just my personal experience but I have read about BPD in various books!.

One of the traits of BPD is that we are oversenitive to real or imagined abandonment!. For me I really find this difficult in my relationships with people, especially those I become very attached too!. Often the wrong people like professionals or someone I am wanting to be liked by!. someone with BPD my feel they are rejected simply by a friend not ringing them or feeling the person they are trying to impress likes someone better than them!. For me I could have felt rejected knowing that my counsellor was going on holidays for the week and could not see me or had to cancel an appointment!. It maybe something completely simple like this which other people withot BPD could handle perfectly but for me I felt that I was not important enough and that they didn't care about me!.

Those of us who suffer with BPD don't see the possible reasonable answers but blame it on ourselves for things that go wrong in our lives!. We decide that- we must be horrible people, there must be something wrong with us etc!. It can lead to a very low depressive mood in a very quick space of time, it can even result in suicidal actions or thoughts!.

People with borderline personality are sometimes seen as manipulative or attention seeking because they can use what comes across as manipulative means to get what they want!. For example threating suicidal behaviour, or threating to do something in order to get people to pay attentio, to rescue them, or just so that they won't leave them (due to their fear of abandonment), eg a wife telling a husband they will kill themselves if he leaves her!.
To the borderline they dont set out to be manipulative and i think that's important if your writting from their point of view!. All they can see is the goal of what they want or need (e!.g the need to have people around them as they fear being alone, abandoned etc) so they will do things to make sure that they get there and these means are often manipulative or seen to be!.

People with BPD often have a shaky sense of identity- are not sure what they want from life, who they are, how they fit in and can also feel they dont have any hobbies or interests, things that build up personality!. they can also be uncertain about their sexuality!.

Because of the borderlines need for people to be with them and need for affection they often test those around them e!.g if you cared about me you wouldn't go out with your friends etc!. In many ways they nearly expect others to be mind readers and when the other person does not prove themselves or their dedication to the borderline it can cause havoc in the relationship, thus most borderline relationships are fraught with confrontation and battles!. Borderlies try so hard to keep people near them that they often are clingy and can end up pushing those away that they are trying to keep close!.

Most people with BPD including myself go through intense periods of depression and this can be accompanied by suicidal thoughts!. Feeling numb or spaced out and not in connection with the world can also be a feeling associated with this!.

Because of the depression, feelings of suicidalness, rejection, fear etc and also as a form of manipulation, the Borderline often has self destructive tendancies, like self harming- cutting, burning, drinking to access, eating disorders etc most use it as a way to cope with the way they feel about themselves and what they see has their inadequacies others as a coping menchanism and for some as a way to stay connected with the real world!.!.!.to have feelings!.

I hope this helps and if you have any other questions feel free to email me!

Its also been noted in various studies that people with BPD have been abused either Physically or sexually , especially in childhood!. But this does not account for everyone with BPD!.

Oh, well I love BPD! By far one of my favorite mental disorders!.
Basically, you become manipulative, and very condescending!. You make everyone around you suffer for your illness!. You constantly want attention, and you dabble in self destructive behavior!.

You're self indulgent, and do what you want without thinking through the effects of your action, and how they effect people around you!.

It's one of the hardest mental disorders to cure, however not to diagnose!. People with the disorder will pretend they've tried to kill themselves in the middle of the night, just so they can see their loved ones upset!.
You can look it up on the DSM-IV website, it's condensed so I'm not sure if it will include borderline personality!. I've never actually looked at it, because I have the book, but friends of mine say it's good!.

There's a great book called The Sociopath Next door!. They tell a great deal about sociopathy and personality disorders!. There's several good stories to help you understand what it's about!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
