Could depression be the reason?!

Question: Could depression be the reason!?
I have been to the doctors for two health problems in the last year and for both i had a series of test that didn't show anything!. One of them was palpitations, i had a ECG, heart scan and i wore a heart monitor for a week all of which showed that nothing was wrong!. The other problem was lower abdominal pain and pain during sex!. I had all the tests done and all again showed nothing was up!.

I believe that i may be suffering from depression, i am really down all the time, self harm (yes, yet another one), lost interest in things including sex, i am constantly tired, i don't want to get out of bed in the morning etc!.

My question is could my previous health problems (that according to the doctors don't exist) be a side affect or symptoms of depression!? I think that the doctors and my family have started to think that i am a hypochondriac, i am stating to believe i am!. These things are all so real but I've had all the test and nothing is wrong!.

Please help meWww@Answer-Health@Com

Hi sophie,

I have no doubt from what you have described that you are suffering from Depression and I know how hard that can be as I too suffer from it!.

However I don't think your previous problems are as much related to Depression but more to anxiety, especially the palpatations!. They were probably a result of panic attacks and anxiety!. the pain during sex too could be due to this and stress as your body was not really pepared or ready for sex therefore your muscles may have been tense and no natural lubrication could have made the sex more painful and caused this!.

I would say the problems were likely related to depression and anxiety and not a physical problem as this has been ruled out now
best of luck

it does sound like depression to me - palpitations could be anxiety which is closely related to depression, as is lack of sex drive, tiredness etc!. Maybe you should find another doctor or counsellor (i suffer from depression mayself and don't have any faith in any of them!!) - it may or may not help!. Good luck, and i hope you feel better soon!. xxWww@Answer-Health@Com

Is there a community health centre or something similar in your area!. Try talking to a mental health nurse, psychologist or counselor first, they should be able to advise you and may be able to recommend doctors who able to help!. You appear to have symptoms of physical and emotional problems (like most of us)!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

You describe how I felt when I had depression - down, tired, loss of interest in things I used to like, etc!. I don't think your pains or heart palpitations could be from the depression (maybe anxiety for the heart palps!?)!. I had better results from a psychiatrist for treatment of depression than I did from my family doc, so I'd recomend seeing a psychiatrist!. Good luck, and things will get better!Www@Answer-Health@Com
