You are right it is NOT an anti-depressent it is a naturally occuring chemical that our body produces under healthy circumstances!.

It can be very helpful in depression that is mild/moderate and causes sluggishness, and leaves you tired and sad!. It can, like most prescription drugs for depression, cause anxiety etc!. It can also help balance out the system with far less side effects than most prescribed drugs!.

St John's Wart has been tested in Europe at normal, recommened doses and found to have less side effects and approximately same success rate as several prescription anti-depressents (average success rate for an antidepressant is about %50 - most patients change drugs three times before being ok with one) !. SJW works like an MAO so you have watch what other supplements you take and avoid alcohol and tyrosine (amino acid also taken for depression)!. In the US, several studies suggested the SJW was ineffective!. The dosages they used were at about 1/3 the normal dose!. You also have to make sure you are taking the correct form!. Do not buy something cheap!. Get a standardized extract and take it regularly, everyday!.

While I agree most people should consider counseling etc along with taking anything that effects mood, I will say this: Prescription Antidepressants are certainly not safer than natural ones!. In many European countries, prescription anti-d's are the absolute last resort after diet, nutrition, herbal, homeopathic and all other "natural" remedies fail because the RX has so many side effects!.

Look up the german E-commission which is like an FDA for natural rememedies!. They are an excellent source of unbiased, scientific research on natural treatments!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Most depression is linked to constant fragmented thoughts that are not empowering!.When you intentionally decide to produce or create what you have been wanting, your negative emotions tend to dissapear!.Do not give your mind time to dwell on the past and what is and point your thoughts toward that that you will work toward achieveing now!.Through constant creating and achieveing of new things and dissallowing thoughts of the past,Your depression and anxiety will melt away!.Change course and never go back!.See you at the top!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you are self diagnosed, you should go to a doctor for his expert opinion!. He can answer any questions you have about meds or treatment Depending on your age, SAMe can increase the suicide tendancy in young people!.It sounds like you've done your homework!. Be very careful with any medicines!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you are taking anti-deppresants without the supervision of a doctor then you're putting yourself in grave dangerWww@Answer-Health@Com
