Question: A question about Aspergers!.
I have aspergers and yet I have no "Special Interest" as so many website call them!.
Is this common!?I have looked for it online to see if there was any other documented case of a child with aspergers being a "Jack Of All Trades" I found nothing!.I am only slightly above average in most subjects, and yet I don't know why!.Most children with the disorder are focused on one subject or part of a subject obsessively!.Not that I'm complaining!.But does anyone on here have any answers or questions!.But there is no question I definetely have aspergers!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Nonya,

With many of these disorders, there are no absolutes, no cardinal rules, and asperger's is like that too!. Many sufferers will have the *special interest* but it is not an absolute requirement!. There are four possibilities in that section of the criteria and you only have to have one to get the diagnosis!.

You may want to take a closer look at those criteria!. What you are looking at are the research and what they (the researchers) find interesting to study!. And the special interest area is subject of a lot of studies!. You may want to look for studies done of how often the criteria are met within that group!.

Well Aspergers is a thread of Autism!. The spectrum of Autism is HUGE!!! And Autism as well as Aspergers doesn't have any cookie cutter definition to it!. I wouldn't freak out you could be on the low end of Aspergers---not saying that in a bad way---just the continuum is a big one there are high, medium and lows of all "Autism's" Are you sure its Aspergers and not just high functioning Autism!?!?!? Aspergers is usually associated with high functioning Autism but EXTRA high so just wondering!. hope this helps, don't be upset your different---embrace it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
