Why is cutting oneself considered so wrong?!

Question: Why is cutting oneself considered so wrong!?
I used to be a self-harmer and when my therapist was telling me to stop I could never understand why I should and why it is so bad!. I understand that you can go too deep, but aside from that, why is it so wrong!? It made me feel so much better, and gave me a strength, so why is cutting so wrong!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ruby D,

Well, I, for one, am glad you stopped!. The reason why it is so bad is that, aside from the posers and wanna-bes, most people do not intentionally hurt themselves!. In most people, the cuts and scratches, intentional or not, actually hurt!.

You (and others) feel that hurting yourself takes the pain away!. You say hurting yourself gave you strength!. Therefore, compared to most people, you react differently to hurting yourself than most people do and this is unusual behaviour!. We allow some freedom of choice, but when your body acts too differently, we get worried!.

The cutting releases endorphins and this can make you feel *good*!. For some people, this endorphin rush is enough to get them addicted to it!. Addiction to anything, except breathing, is bad for you, period!.

Are you following me here!?

Besides the addiction, you have the scars and marks all over you!. These can give you problems later in life and they look skeevy too!.

For most cutters, there is some emotional or psychological issue that triggers this addiction response!. It could be physical or sexual abuse in your past!.

This is why professionals are very concerned about cutting, it usually means there is another hidden problem to address!. It could be a very big problem too!.

Stopping the self harm is usually seen as a sign that you are getting better!. Get better for you, okay!?

Never feel like cutting yourself is wrong!.!.!.It is a symptom of a bigger problem but it is a very understandable coping mechanism!. The problem with cutting yourself goes beyond the physical harm!. You said it yourself in your question!.!.!."It made me feel so much better, and gave me strength"!. The strength you feel when you cut yourself is and unhealthy and false sense of strength!. It is really the lack of knowing how to gain the emotional strength to deal with your problems in a more positive and constructive way!.

I used to be a cutter and I stopped, not because I thought it was wrong, but because I realized how weak it made me!. Self mutilating cripples you from being able to grow and develop the emotional strength and well being to cope with your problems in a way that will benefit you, not leave you scars!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's wrong,at least to me because your body is your temple, you don't mutilate or destroy that temple!.When you self harm, you do that!.I used to cut myself!.I have other self injuries!.People think that they are getting relief out of cutting themselves when really it is a false sense of relief or pleasure!.You always feel the after math after you do it!.Getting infection, worrying about other people finding out, worried about whether you will get sent to an institution, worried about what other people will think about you and worried about whether the scars will clear up!. That's what is wrong with it!.GOD BLESS you!Www@Answer-Health@Com
