Question: On the subject of sadism what causes sexual gratification from humiliation of others!?
I could not fathom such a person until I became exposed to such behavior, and therefore found out the hard way!. Actually, I had never heard of such a thing, or can understand how this can happen to a human being!. Any psychiatrists out there with a professional opinion!?

Please no crude responses!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I agree with what has already been said, it's definately deep rooted issues being expressed in one of two ways, either the person is trying to inflict the same pain (humiliation can be painful psychologically) that they endured or they are trying to emulate some behavior (submissive) that they may have been around from a young age that got imprinted on their psyche, like domestic violence for example, the child watching their father beat up their mother may make them in turn, act out the same behaviors as their dad, or in order to appease and in an attempt to thwart mistreatment (battery) they may make themselves meek and submissive because they see mother gets treated better when this is done!. Dominant and submissive behaviors exist all around us, in a normal and generally acceptable ways, but add some form of familial dysfunction and you get something a little different!. They may associate pain with pleasure or love!. I'm not an expert or anything, but this is how i see it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm not a psychiatrist, but I have read the works (at least fleetingly) of the Marquis de Sade!. I expect that the gratification comes from a buried identification with the person being humiliated!. That is, the sadist was early on put in a position of helplessness that he (or she) then tries to overcome by doing the same thing or worse to someone else!. When the sadist sees that the humiliation has caused grief, the previous scene is re-enacted with the opposite outcome for the sadist!. The dominated becomes the dominator!. The cycle repeats itself, perhaps, if the newly humiliated person also feels the need to hurt someone else!. You can see this mechanism in _La philosophie dans le boudoir!._

This doesn't answer the question, however, of why the gratification is sexual except in so far as the original situation involved sex!. That one I cannot for sure answer because torture does not seem to me inherently sexual!. Watching someone suffer may be connected to the erotic, but suffering itself is not so except, maybe, in so far as despoiling is a deflowering!. If so, it is repeatable provided that the ante can be upped by increasingly greater suffering as in _Justine!._ The end is death!.

All this activity is an analogue of the Fall!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

For some ppl, giving up complete control and submitting can be gratifying!. When it's hard core, I can't imagine it unless the person was abused at some point earlier in life!. I'm no expert, though!. Heh, wrong side of the equation!. Ironically, the masoschist actually controls the game!. When s/he says stop, the sadist is to do so!. The sadist is about power and control, but on a leash of sorts if you will!. Go as close to real rape and brutality w/o breaking the law!. Why!? Probably feels powerless in real life and trying to reclaim it!. Depending on the person, there may be a lot of rage mixed in their!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
