Answers:
What should I avoid while taking fluoxetine!?
Avoid drinking alcohol, which can increase some of the side effects of fluoxetine!.

Avoid using other medicines that make you sleepy (such as cold medicine, pain medication, muscle relaxers, medicine for seizures, other medication for depression or anxiety)!. They can add to sleepiness caused by fluoxetine!.
Cold or allergy medicine, narcotic pain medicine, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, and medicine for seizures, depression or anxiety can add to sleepiness caused by fluoxetine!. Tell your doctor if you regularly use any of these other medicines!. Fluoxetine can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions!. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

So, the instructions will tell you that it isn't a good idea to drink with anti-depressants, as prozac (fluoxetine) can make you sleep, and alcohol could make you sleepier on top of it!. That's the professional advice!.

Now, advice from personal knowledge and experience!? I've been on almost every SSRI on the market (that's the group of drugs to which fluoxetine belongs) and I've drank with every single one of them!. The only one which seems to have any interaction with alcohol whatsoever is Zoloft (sertraline), and even that is mild, just gets you a little drunker a little faster!. Fluoxetine and alcohol act on entirely different systems!. Fluoxetine acts on your serotonin system (and, more mildly, your dopamine and norepinephrine systems) while alcohol acts on the receptors for a chemical called GABA (gamma aminobutyric acid), which is the very general chemical that causes a slow-down message in your brain!. It's called an inhibitory neurotransmitter, which means everything works just a little less well, or just a little more slowly!.

While alcohol seems to have some impact on the dopamine system, and perhaps other systems, overall you're not doubling up on effects on any one chemical system, and so you should be okay!.

Just don't overdo it, obviously, because whether or not you're taking an anti-depressant, alcohol poisoning kind of sucks!. Drink lots of water, and don't start drinking on an empty stomach!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi,

I have been taking fluxoxetine 40 mg for the last 6 months, I have the occasional drink, sometimes too much, I have not suffered any ill effects!.Just take it slowly and enjoy your birthday!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You can, but keep it moderate and not often!. Alcohol is a depressant, so drinking is defeating the purpose of the antidepressant!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I drank while taking fluoxetine, it only made it worse, and increased self-harm for me, I highly recommend you don't drink, you don't need alcohol to have a good time :)

Not a good idea at all!. I took Fluoxetine a few years ago and had half a lager and lime - boy did I regret that!. It makes you violently sick and have stomach cramps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's not a good idea!. If you want to get better leave the alcohol alone!.
