How does someone bipolar keep a job?!

Question: How does someone bipolar keep a job!?
I am a very hard worker and I am good at everything I do!. I have had problems keeping jobs due to "mood" control!. It took a long time for me to realize that I needed help and that I wasn't just being immature!. I didn't find out I was bi-polar until I was 30 and it has been ruining my life since way before then!. I have had a lot of jobs and I have been fired a lot!. I am now having trouble getting a job at all and I can't afford school or to even start my own business!. When I apply, they always mention background checks!. Well, I am having to file bankruptcy and I am sure it shows how many jobs I have had which just works against me!. Does anyone know a way to help me with this!? I am not lazy or immature I just have a real medical issue that I fight with on a daily basis!. I am getting desperate because if I don't get a job soon, I am going to be homeless!. Even though it isn't an employers business it may help if you mentioned that you had a "medical condition" that created some problems but that you are okay now and eager to work!. You may have to settle for a job you feel is beneath you for the time being!. Build up a good reputation then work your way up!.

Consider contacting local social service agencies, social security (if you are in the US), vocational rehabilitation through the state, advocacy centers, jobs and unemployment office!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.be resourceful and make some calls, ask for help or guidance!.

A lot of places are set up to offer some assistance in finding work, even under your circumstances!. Others may not be able to help but may know where you can try!.

Vocational rehabilitation is a huge help with things like job training and sometimes even getting into school!.

Don't give up, stay motivated and most of all stay stabilized and do whatever it is that you have been doing to get on your feet!. It will take time to transition, enjoy it, it's better than the alternative!. Sometimes being "average", even if at a crappy job can be exciting!.

Good for you!!

BTW, if you have the luxury try to look into options that you will enjoy and feel happy about the work hours!. Reducing stress will help you stay with something for awhile!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Wow, I am so sorry!. I'm bipolar too, and I've had similar problems with school and work!.

I'm going to give you a link to a really good site that covers the ADA--the Americans with Disabilities Act and has lots of information about how mentally ill people can better function in the workplace, fight discrimination, and plenty of other good things: http://www!.bu!.edu/cpr/jobschool/

It also covers disclosing your condition to employers and many other relevant topics!.

The fact is that you have a disability like any other and that you have rights!. There is help out there!. I'm not sure of the process, but social services might get involved in your case and you may be eligible for unemployment, food stamps, etc!. Do more research on the web!. There seem to be lots of resources out there!. This site will hopefully get you started!.

If you feel like you need a support group, NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, has a home page with lots of information on things like that: http://www!.nami!.org/!. You might even be able to find some information through them!.

Without a job you must be going untreated right now!. There may be a way for you to get low cost health insurance!.

I hope this is of some help, and my sincere best wishes!.
