Is possible to be scared of writing...?!

Question: Is possible to be scared of writing!.!.!.!?
Well, not exactly scared!.!.!. More like anxious!.
Sometimes I want to write, but I don't like to because I can't!. Like in my head I could be writing a story, but once I try to get it out by typing, or writing on paper, I freeze up!. I get all nervous about screwing up!. Everything ends up sounding really bad!.

I always get little parts of stories in my head, but I just can't seem to write it physically!. Thinking way too hard to make it come out the way I want it too!.!.!. I'm also very indecisive, so that probably has to do with it!.

Anyone else have this problem!? What's wrong with me!?

What are some ways to help me relax & think clearly when I'm writing, so I can get the info from my brain down to real life!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

ssss,

Oh boy, you have what I had for years!.!.!.!. I heard the advice about just doing it, writing and writing until I got good at it!. Of course, I refused to listen!. You may also refuse this advice, too!.

But their recommendations were right!. Writing is a skill, like playing an instrument!. Most of us are not that gifted, so we have to practice, practice, and practice some more!. I can tell you that it does flow easier the more you write!.

I have to tell you, do you really think someone like Stephen Spielberg or any of the professional writers get it *right* the first sitting!? Well, they do not!. They revise, edit and throw away more stuff than shows up in the finished work!. Most good writers have to rewrite their work and do rewrite!.

My advice, write everything down you possibly can, as rough as it needs to be just to get the thoughts down on *paper*!. (Actually I use MS Word, so I do not kill so many trees!.!.!.!.!.) You can pick and choose the parts that are good and work on them more!.

You may want to take a community college course either on-line or on ground that would provide a structure for writing!. A course would give you the experience in using the computer rather than hand writing or typing on paper!. Both are okay, but there is no comparision for me, when it comes to writing using a computer!. (I did my Master's on line, and did I have to write, like 15000 pages or more!!!)

I hated the whole paper thing back when I was in school (deep into the last century), it was arduous for me getting out the paper, revising and getting so hung up in punctuation, spelling and making sure it *looked right* on paper!. Word processing in the 21st Century is so less stressful!.!.!.!.it is actually fun!.

Write it all out the way you are trying to--and don't worry about making mistakes, just keep going!. Once you relax, you can go back and proofread!.

It sounds like it's the anxiety that is affecting your writing--not the fact that you can't write!. Writing is all about you!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think it's possible to be afraid or anxious of anything, it's not abnormal!. I don't have this problem myself, but I can see how it would suck!. I think what you need to do is not try to make everything come out just right the first time!. You gotta start with a rough draft or an outline!. You can always come back and improve stuff later, I think you need to focus on just getting the idea down first!. If something is worth writing, it's worth writing poorly!.

Take one of the bits in your head and just describe it!. What do you see, hear, smell, etc!? Don't worry about making it perfect, just make it!. Later when you're editing is when you can work that out (unless you're on a roll, then go w/ the flow)!.

If your fears are holding you back, sometimes you have to find your courage, or give yourself logical reasons why the fear is irrational or irrelevant!. Try just telling yourself "I will write this" over and over!.

I recommend checking out the book The No-Experience-Necessary Writer's Course by Scott Edelstein!. The second chapter is called "The Ten Biggest Fears about writing-- and How to Get Over Them!." The book is really good, and it's got lots of warm-ups and exercises!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

That's a really common problem!. The best thing I've found is to do some free association writing!. Start typing whatever is in your head!. If it changes mid-sentence, type that, too!. If you are thinking, "I can't think of what to type!." Type that!. Look around the room!. Type about what you see if you mind doesn't cooperatively wonder!. Then make up stuff about what you see!.

The exercise helps with a few things!. It gets you used to typing!. It gets you used to freely writing what you are thinking without a filter!. That is very important!. And, it helps you to let go of the pressure and just write your story!. First drafts rarely are very good!. Second drafts sometimes are okay!. Third drafts are when the story really takes shape!. So, try not to put so much pressure on yourself to make it perfect the first time!. Maybe Steven King can do it, but just about no one else can!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
