You have my sympathy!. I went through the wringer with my oldest and it was not a fun trip!. He went to a special school for ODD children and was kicked out for fire starting!. He wound up in the State system for Juveniles and several residential facilities!. I cannot tell you how much stuff he destroyed, alcohol he stole and drank, and people he ticked off!. I had protesters marching up and down my sidewalk because of him and his behaviour!.

We tried all sorts of meds, they worked for about three weeks and then suddenly stopped, why no one knows!.

I like the boot camp idea, I would have sent him to one if not for the state stepping in!. (I could have kept him out of the state system, but I knew I was not going to be able to afford to help him much longer!.)

Bless my state's Juvy school system, they determined that he in fact had a learning disability!. My town's school system missed it for years!.

Once the LD was addressed the ODD symptoms waned!.

BTW he is now a non-com in the US Army(Infantry), in charge of a platoon of men!.

Stay close and love him all you can, and even when you feel like you cannot!.!.!.!.!.

boot camp could be helpful but maybe try sending him to a yoga camp or meditation center or hippie type school!.!.!.somewhere where the people just dont argue!. i am not a parent but i grew up with adhd and these types of places helped to calm me a lot!. i know its not the same thing what-so-ever!.!.!.!.but just a tid bit of adivce!.

i think one of those would be best (boot camp or spa type enviornment)!.!.!.something drastic!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes to the Social Security!. My 7 yr old daughter has ADHD and ODD!. So I totally understand what your going through!. She takes a med called Guanfacine 1mg twice a day and it seems to calm her down some but she still has the outbursts!. Talk to his doctor about maybe getting that drug r something else with a higher dosage!. S!.S!.I will take awhile!. I'm appealing my daughter's for the 3rd time now!.

ODD is very draining to deal with!.!.!. I'm sorry that you and your son have to suffer with this!.

Have you looked for support groups in your area for parents who have children with special needs!? If not, do yourself a favor and find one!. Most Children's Hospitals have a psychiatry department that can give you some ideas on where to go!. If there isn't one in your area, try to see if there is one on line somewhere!. You need to talk with other parents that understand your trials!.

Lastly, have you ever thought about a Boot Camp!? I know that sounds drastic, but it may help somewhat!. You have to do some serious research though as some are not mentally healthy and go too far!. You need to bite this in the behind before it gets worse, and it will!.

ODD in itself is difficult, but then you have the hormones, peer pressure and a load of other things coming into play!.

I wish you luck!.!.!. it isn't easy!. You can message me if you ever want to talk or vent!.!.!. I have a teen aged son with severe ADHD!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
