Can a psychiatrist mandate treatment for illegal drug abuse?!

Question: Can a psychiatrist mandate treatment for illegal drug abuse!?
If you tell your psychiatrist that you're abusing drugs, can they commit you to an inpatient facility for treatment!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
No!. The only way you can be involuntarily "committed" would be if you are an imminent danger to yourself or others!. Generally, drug use is not considered and imminent danger!. This is usually more for things like threatening to kill yourself or other people!.

However, if you are arrested and charged with a violation related to drug use, the state can mandate that you attend counseling and this may include being in a residential facility!.

I don't know whether they can actually commit you just because you are abusing drugs, but I am sure they can make recommendations to you and others that work alongside them on your case about seeking some form of rehabilitation !.!.!.!. I think a committal can only come if it is obvious and/or shown that you are on the verge of hurting yourself or others - then that would be based on protecting you from yourself and your family and the public from you !.!.!.!. I should think a psychiatrist is more interested to find out why you are abusing drugs, illegal or otherwise, try to find the root cause of your abuse !.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Mandatory treatment for illegal drug abuse can only be enforced if a psychiatrist determines that you are a harm to yourself or others, or if you are caught and a Judge orders it!. And the Judge is bound of course to the laws of the state you live in!. If you are using illegal drugs I suggest you get help on your own before you kill yourself or harm someone else!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No!. Only your family can do that and he is bound by a patient/doctor confidentiality clause!. UNLESS you confide in him that you plan to harm someone, he can't talk!.!.!. Think about getting off the dope and then you won't have that problem!. I know, I've been there, done that!. The dope is soooo not worth all the trouble it causes!. !. !. God Bless and Good Luck!
