Insanity and genes...?!

Question: Insanity and genes!.!.!.!?
A relative said something to me the other day that freaks me out!. They say there was an insane, mentally ill person in my family, in my father's side!. My aunt from my mother's side told me there could be something wrong with me in the future!.

Is this possible!? I mean everyone can get mentally ill but does having an insane relative double that chance!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Yeah, psychotic disorders are genetic!. Your chances are low low low!. It is one person who is not a closely related relative!. Psychotic disorders are only a 10 percent chance if one parent has it!. As opposed to bipolar or dyslexia both are 50 percent chance if 1 parent has it!. Your relative was really overstepping her bounds to say something so passive aggressive!. And what business is a relative from your mother's side to discuss the mental health of someone on your father's side!? Clearly this aunt has issues!. I would be careful what you say around this aunt in the future, don't put much weight into what she says since she has a hidden agenda and tell your mom!. If I were your mom even though you are 22, I would really lay my sis out! Usually there are signs from early childhood!.

For those with schizophrenia, it really manifests by now, most have a severe break (from reality) around 18-20 years old!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've learned in Psychology that "insanity" is a legal term used to describe a temporary state-of-mind when someone acts particularly out of character and commits a heinous crime without the ability to tell what they're doing is right or wrong!. You would have to find out his particular diagnosis (ex: schizophrenia, bipolar) to see the genetic factors!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you have someone in your family with a mental illness, it supposedly raises your chance of developing one yourself!. But I wouldn't worry!. It isn't a guarantee it'll happen to you or anything!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
