I don't want to be a doctor anymore. How do I break the news to my parents?!
Question: I don't want to be a doctor anymore!. How do I break the news to my parents!?
I lost interest in the field about a year ago!. Since then I've kind of been wandering in college, taking random science classes, since I thought I should do dentistry instead!. I didn't do too well in college since I wasn't sure what I wanted to do and I hated the college!. So I'm back with my parents now and I'm starting at a medical school near them in about a month (they work overseas, both of them are physicians)!. I haven't started yet but I really feel that I don't want to do this!. My dad told me a few weeks ago he didn't think I was cut out for it, but we still went through with the the registration/initial testing, etc!. But maybe I'm just not cut out for it !.!. I don't really like studying organs and body systems!.!. So I thought about my talents and what I like to do and realized to myself that I want to be a teacher instead!. It was an idea I played with before but never really actually pursued!. I remembered that even when I was younger, I took on a variety of tutoring jobs and did well and enjoyed it!. And in school I effortlessly aced english and english tests and did really swell on the english portion of the SAT I without any previous studying at all, 700 or so, but for math, I constantly needed a tutor in school, and even with the extra prep for it, I didn't do as well as in english!. And science is just blah!.!.So how can I break this news to my parents who are bound to be disappointed, maybe even angry!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have a similiar situation!. My parents are encouraging me to go down the medical route as well!. They have promised me cars and money and their full love & support!. Yet, time after time I have denied the offers!. Being a teacher I think is much more fun!. I am much more interested in that in the long run!. I hope you stay true to yourself!.

I know this sound a bit cliche but if your parents love you, they will support you in everything you do! Whether it be a teacher or a doctor!. You need to tell them that too!. I'm sure they'll realize it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Tell your parents right now!. Your dad must have an idea anyway!. They will be grateful not to have to pay out thousands of dollars now only to have you drop out later!. Do it before you register for classes!.

This is your life not your parents life!. Nothing worse than a career that you hate and certainly not fair on future patients if you continued with medicine!.
Tell them face to face that you will not continue with the study!. Be firm and direct but polite!. Don't make it an open discussion but rather a closed decision!. Good luck and it will likely be much easier than you expect!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sensible, well adjusted parents will be happy, as long as you are doing what you want to do, and making a contribution to society!. Dentists have a high suicide rate, and there is still some science involved!.
Teachers are underpaid, and undervalued in society!. I suggest that you tell your dad that you considered what he said, long and hard, and decided that he was right!. Possibly ask him to break it gently to your mother!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
