Suggestion, turn a radio on as background sound / music, and leave it on 24 hrs a day until you are used to your new house!.

My personal experience is that animals can get into a garage without your knowledge - and knock stuff down!.

In an old house the floors may not have been built to hold the extreme weight of a refrigerator!. Any movement, even from starting-up the motor, can cause the floor to creak!. Try moving the fridge a couple inches to see if that changes anything!.

Furnaces are of many types!.
Gas furnaces make a sound then they fire-up!.
Any metal air duct can swell or shrink when it heats or cools, causing creaking or popping noises!.
Hot Water Heat makes noises as the water and bubbles circulate in the pipes!.
Electric heat can also cause creaking or popping noises, or ticking!.
Some old heat systems actually "bang" at start-up!.
Radiator heat has it's own peculiar noises and rhythms!.
Wood stoves can crackle, pop and hiss as the wood sap heats and boils, escaping and igniting from the wood!. Wood also breaks and falls into new positions as it burns!.

Frankly, I am more afraid of alarm systems than of intruders!. Just lock your door, and turn on the radio or TV!. Hug your Teddy Bear and you'll be fine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

House noises are VERY normal, just be happy you know the source, what's un nerving is when you don't

edit - materials expand and contract as well as settle at different rates, causing these noisesWww@Answer-Health@Com

Lol your furnace will make a creak and a crack every now and then when it kicks off and on!. The older houses will creak alot on their own so dont be afraid!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Why is this in mental healthWww@Answer-Health@Com

Simple answer is that all materials expand when heated and constrict when cooled!. What you are hearing is the expansion, and constriction!. The sounds you hear from the garage are more than likely cause by rats!.
You say we, which would suggest you live with someone else, discuss installing alarm systems on doors and any place of entry you are concerned about!.
And finally contact the police and see how often break ins occur in your area!.
If none of the above relieves you anxiety, you must see a therapist for counseling!. You are far to paranoid!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
