High prolactin levels?!

Question: High prolactin levels!?
If you have high prolactin levels (or whatever it is you get from taking Invega) what are the chances you'll get a pituitary tumor!? This really scares me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
If you are taking a medication that raises your prolactin, you will NOT get a pituitary tumor!. It just does not work that way!.

Please remember that lactation is a normal process - when it is needed, and pregnant women do not all develop pituitary tumors! They have to have high levels of prolactin to lactate for their babies!. It is just when it happens when it is out of um, sync, that one has to look for a cause, and in your case, the cause is well documented that your medication does raise prolactin!.

You need not worry about a tumor!.

As for the other poster, I hope her tumor shrank with medications - but it is also possible that with a 3mm tumor and that since MRIs have 3mm cuts, and a 40% fail rate with pituitary tumors and that they did not use contrast!.!.!. it could still be there!. I had mine hide for 12 years! I hope your neuro-endocrinologist still will follow and test you thoroughly!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

hey there! I am not sure what the percentage's are for getting a pituitary tumor but most of those types of tumors are benign!. Have u had a MRI yet!? to see if u have one!? I had an elevated prolactin level which caused my breast to lactate so the Dr!. put me on meds to stop the lactation and I also I had an MRI and both of them came back positive for a benign tumor on my pituitary gland but after I stopped taking 2 of the meds that could cause it my 3rd came back negative for a tumor weird I know but it could be because they didn't give the contrast dye they inject into the arm before the MRI!. I am sorry if this was no help to you but u should see a neurologist and maybe an endocrinologist!. good luck hun!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com
