If there is a university in your area, call the psychology department!. Ask if their students take cases and, if so, describe your friend!. It will be cheap and the students will be nearing graduation and working under a supervisor!.

Also, he'll do best with CBT (cognitive behavior therapy)!.

I wouldn't even bother with a doctor!. They push pills but are not trained to diagnose psychiatric problems!. If he's really depressed, the psychologist will assess him and determine if he should be put on antidepressants, then refer him to a doctor for a prescription!.

it life everyone gets depressed I'm depressed first of all you should tell him to get over himself second what are these people saying about not going to a doctor you should totally do that and i should no cos Otha my parents have depression did you also know that robbie williams is mentally ill anyway back to the subject a doctor is the best person you can talk to because someone a a uni get all their info form books not life experiences and if he cant go to the doctors call NHS direct that's what their there for to help people with worries if they cant make it to the doctor look i know it may seem it but the opposite sex isn't everything he should take it easy if you know what i mean Www@Answer-Health@Com

low mood can be mistaken for depression as you say he is always
hyper and happy if he is having low mood and is normally as you say
the feeling of been in a low mood would be more uncomfortable for him
its best not to say he is depressed as he could feed into it and make him feel like he is make sure he can trust you and let him know that you are also there to help get him to talk about his low mood and why he thinks he is feeling like this let him talk as he may not be telling you all
try and get him to see the doctor explain to him the help his doctor can give him and what he is there for to help
and tell him help does not come to him he needs to seek the help
the girl thing well we all have problems there
good luck

just be there for him!. you are obviously a good friend to care about him so much!. if he wants to talk about something just listen and be there!. when you are with him, be really positive and try and motivate him!. i have depression and i find that when people are happy around me then my mood lifts!.

is there a reason why he cant go to the doctors about it!? is it because he doesn't want to or he hasn't got one!? there are helplines he can call like the samaritans who may be able to help!. if not, is there a tutor at sixth form he trusts that he can talk to!?

good luck xxxWww@Answer-Health@Com

Citalopram did more for me than CBT!.
I have no distorted (much) sense of myself, I have no issues in my life, I have a decent job and a decent family!.
Nothing anybody can say to me would make me a happy person (long term)!.

I just had no desire to keep on living!.
Medication has helped me see at least some sort of value in remaining alive, rather than seeking eternal rest!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Just being there for him and Listening even when it is repetitive i needed someone like this and it is such a hard thing to ask a friend to do this as you worry they will get fed up with you you are a good friend to care so much xWww@Answer-Health@Com

He needs professional help!. Depression is a serious illness!. talk to your class teacher and arrange counselling for him!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You can help him by listening to him if he wants to vent how he is feeling!. It can be a very lonely place suffering from depression, and having someone share the experience with you can make it less lonely!. You cannot always change how he feels but just by walking along side him, this can make a big difference especially if he is having a really bad day!.

He's at college which in many respects is a good thing because it gives his day structure and something which he has to attend!. When you are depressed you need to motivate yourself and having to go to college is a good thing because it gives him an interest and focus even if he isn't really enjoying it at the moment!. I also appreciate it can put added pressure on him so it would be beneficial to him if he lets a teacher or someone in authority know that he is suffering from depression!.

During his spare time he needs to do anything that he usually enjoys or finds uplifting, it could be watching a funny programme or comedian, reading a funny/amusing book, absolutely anything that lifts his spirits!.
He may also find doing something for someone else has a feel good factor because it is rewarding, and this may be just as beneficial as doing something uplifting!. Things may not lift his spirts the first few times he does them, but perservere because eventually they will pay off and uplit him!. If he hasn't got many hobbies/pastimes perhaps try something new - variety is the spice of life!.

Why will he not go to the doctor about it!?!? His doctor could refer him to the local Community Mental Health Team or similar and he may then have a Support Worker or Social Worker to give him tips and guidance on how to move himself forward!.

Does he have many other friends!?!? The reason I ask is that going out in a group and having a good laugh can be most uplifting - the old sayings are definitely true, the more the merrier!. If not, perhaps you can try to get him to laugh because laughter is definitely the best remedy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
