Question: I have symptoms of schizophrenia, but what do I do if I don't want to take the medication!?

I have been clean & sober for over a year & I always blamed my symptoms on alcohol or drugs!. I was prescribed seroquel by a psychiatrist about ten years ago & it usually helped!. I thought since I am clean & sober now, I could stop taking my medication, so I decided to stop taking it on my own, but now the symptoms are coming back!. I just starting taking it again & the side affects are bothering me, I guess from stopping it for so long!. I really don't want to take medication because it makes me feel like I must be crazy, but it is the only thing that has seemed to work!. I called to try to get an appt!. with my psychiatrist, but he is no longer there, so I have to wait until they get another doctor!. If anyone else has ever had these symptoms how can I make them go away without having to take medication!?

Until you can see your doctor, take your meds no matter what side effects you are having!.
Schizophrenia is a LIFE LONG condition, it will never go away!.
Right now you are aware of what is going on, and still able to convince yourself to take your meds!.
If things continue this way however, you may lose that grip on reality and things will get very bad!.
If you can't see a doctor at the place you went to before, I highly recommend finding a doctor somewhere else to see!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have schizophrenia and I can tell you a couple things!. If you don't accept your illness and take your pills you are never going to lead a healthy life!. I don't want to brush my teeth, but if I don't they will all get pulled out!. I don't want to shave, but if I don't I will look like some whacked out, grizzley adams freak!. I don't want to take my heart medicine, but if I don't I will die!. I don't want to cook my own meals, or clean my room, but if I don't I will die and no one else is going to be there to take care of it for me!. Life is full of things you don't want to do, but if you don't, you won't survive!. It sucks, but that is how life works!. As far as drug and alcohol goes, 80% of drug and alcohol abusers have mental illness!. That is why we can't deal with reality!. Just because you quit, that doesn't make the underlying problems go away!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Until you can get an appointment to see your psychiastrist, I strongly suggest taking the medication!. My friend has this and there as a point when she refused to take her medication because she felt that she was getting better, but b/c she stoped the meds, the symptoms got worse!. Schizophrenia is very difficult to deal with on your own, the medication can help you control!. When you do see your psychiatrist, maybe they can change it to something else that might not have those same side effects!. Don't risk doing anything crazy b/c you don't want to feel crazy and not take your meds!. You're not crazy if you think you're crazy!. Crazy people tend to not think that they are!.
