Is it time to cut down my therapy?!

Question: Is it time to cut down my therapy!?
I have been suffering from major major issues and have been seeing a therapist twice a week!. For once, I feel somewhat functional and not a basket case!. Does that mean it's time to cut it from twice to once a week, or is it because of the steady twice a week that I am feeling better and so shouldn't tamper with it!. I would hate to feel terrible again considering I still have the obstacles I'm facing and my therapist has done an amazing job without medication!. What do you think!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

You don't mention the length of time that you have seen your therapist!. However, it sounds as if s/he has done a really good job in helping you to feel better!.

You say that you still have the same obstacles in your life!. Now that you are stabilized, perhaps you and your therapist can work on the obstacles you are still facing by determining goals for handling them when you are no longer in therapy!.

You may want to try your wings by cutting back to once a week but I really believe that changing the frequency of treatment should be discussed with your therapist!. It is best if you and your therapist can make a joint decision with some specific goals leading to your stopping your therapy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ask your therapist what s/he thinks about cutting back to once a week!. Or you could try once a week one week and twice a week the next week and do that for a while so you don't go down from 8 times a month to 4 times immediately; this way you go down to 6 times a month -- if your therapist would agree to this schedule!. It would be a way of maintaining some contact and seeing how well you do on the weeks you only see him/her once a week!. If you seem to be doing okay most of the time -- especially the weeks when you only are being seen once a week you could then try to go to once a week all the time with the knowledge that you could go back up if you needed to do it!.

Whatever you do, good luck!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ask your therapist to try it for a couple weeks and see how you feel!.
You can always go back to two times if you feel you need it!.
Dealing with hard things in life is always a balance!.

I've stopped therapy because I felt good - and then I've gone back to twice a week just easily!. It's all about staying healthy and doing what you need to achieve a safe state of mind!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
