Do you have suggestions? I'm an uncurable insomniac :(?!

Question: Do you have suggestions!? I'm an uncurable insomniac :(!?
Recently I've been diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress and depression!. I've been taking drugs for both these things for about seven or eight months now!. But I still can't fall asleep!. I was put on prescription sleeping meds, but they don't work AT ALL!. Tylenol PM works but I have to take much more than the recommended dosage!. It's gotten to the point where I need to sleep so badly that I pop a couple of each of these, and I'm worried about the effects!.

So: any suggestions for insomnia!? And no, I don't eat before bed, I don't have sugar, I never drink caffiene!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

See Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, at http://www!.ezy-build!.net!.nz/~shaneris in sections 33 - 34, and examine the http://1-800-therapist!.com/ website, and use the locators in sections 33 - 34, and section 1, and phone book, and/or various associations for psychiatrists and psychologists, to find the nearest one using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy)!.

If unable to afford it, or to locate one nearby, contact the county/local mental health agency: any therapy on offer may prove helpful, particularly if combined with appropriate medication!. (The following is a variant of EMDR therapy, which has been used successfully for those people suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, insomnia, and anxiety: it is easily learned, quick to use, yet can be very effective!.

It is easy to be dismissive of it, because it may seem a little strange, but is well worth trying, for at least a few weeks, to see how it effective it is in your case)!. First, sit comfortably, and take a deep breath!. Then, without moving your head, move your eyes from the left, to the right, and back again, taking around a second to do so (say: "a thousand and one": this takes approximately a second)!. Repeat this procedure (without the words, although you can count, subvocally if you like) 20 times!. Then close your eyes and relax!. Become aware of any tension or discomfort you feel!. Then open your eyes, and take another deep breath, and repeat step one, closing your eyes, and relaxing afterwards, in the same manner!. Then, repeat the procedure one last time!.

Some people may find that this is all they need do: others find that they need 2 sessions in quick succession, but professional treatment is the best option, if you can access it!. With practice, you may find that you can employ this technique with your eyes closed, thereby enabling a much wider window of opportunity to use in public, without attracting unwanted attention!. If you can't access EMDR, you can request someone you trust to instruct you to focus on the event(s) which caused the PTSD, while you are performing the eye movements, and just before you are due to finish, (they count your eye movements, as your eyes follow their finger, as they move it from left to right; back and forth) and ask you what you are thinking at that time!.

Professional EMDR is always much preferable, and Opester, (who gives it a glowing recommendation) a therapist with more than 20 years experience, and a former contributor, here, stated that it was one of only 2 disorders which can be completely cured!. An EMDR variant, for insomnia, is shown in section 3, on insomnia, at ezy build: see page O first!. Sleeping medications should be used for a max!. of 3 weeks!. View www!.drugs!.com & www!.rxlist!.com Expect, and accept a night, or two, of poor sleep, at first, but this should soon improve, using the methods in section 3!.

Learn as much as you can about sleep; knowledge is power!.

There are different levels of sleep!. A surgery MD once told me he could numb me or take me to the edge of death with the right drugs!. I try to apply this info to my sleep issues by visualizing the different levels like an elevator!. I might not get to sleep at the level I want, but at least I rest!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Have you had a sleep study!?

I have the same problem! I take ambien cr !. I am surprised it works cause nothing else does!. With my sleep med!. I eat in my sleep!. I can't have any junk food in the house cause I will eat it in my sleep!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Try reading a text book in a subject you are not at all interested in right before sleeping!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I know exactly how you feel as I have been dealing with the same problems - nothing worked for me either, not until anaemia set in that is, now all I want to do is sleep :-/ before that, my sleeping habits had settled into the pattern of 3-4 days with no sleep, then about 6-8hrs of poor sleep - I was like a walking zombie so what my psychologist had me working on was:

If you can't get to sleep in 20mins, get up and do something until you feel tired, then go back to bed with the intent of going straight off to sleep!.

Don't use your bed for anything other than sleeping - so don't read in bed, watch tv, play games etc - your bed is for sleeping in so if you only ever sleep in it, then your mind will gradually associate the bed with sleep and it should become easier over time!.

The best combo of drugs for me was Ambien CR and trazodone!. Knocked me right out!. The Ambien CR doesn't work as fast as the trazodone, but the Ambien CR kees me asleep!. That being said, I am weaning off these meds to try to get pregnant after I'm all in the clear!. My doctor told me to establish a bedtime regime, like this:
1!. have a hot cup of chamomile tea
2!. take a hot bath
3!. have clean sheets
4!. have clean pajamas
5!. only use your bedroom to sleep in
6!. listen to ambient noise to help you relax as you lay down (like ocean waves or rain)!.

It doesn't work all the time, but it does help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i know how you feel!. my doctor ended up sedating me with 400 mg seroquel, for both my psychosis and insomnia!. but once thats in my system, it doesnt put me to sleep at all!. i went to the store however and bought dyphenadrine i believe its called!. the Equate, generic brand, of a sleep medicine!. after about an hour it takes affect and lets me sleep!.

kinda no matter what you take, once your body gets used to it, it wont have the same effect!. maybe you have some problems thta you havent gotten out!? try talking about things to your family or a counselor!. maybe support groups!. i found that when i know someone really truly cares for me, im able to get to sleepWww@Answer-Health@Com
