The beginning of agoraphobia?!

Question: The beginning of agoraphobia!?
Anyone aware of a funky virus going around!. For about 2-3 weeks i feel mildly unsteady on my feet when out especially when standing still or standing in a que!. One day I had the worst headache in my life for an entire day!. A day or two later I woke up with a sore throat!. Next day I was woken up in the night with stomach ache!. Though I went to bed early I was so tired at work had to go have a nap for a hour!. The next day my lungs hurt mildly!. But nothing seems to develop into a flu or cold!. Just this consistent unsteady feeling!. I have to hold on to something, and it's starting to make me feel a bit anxious!.

I don't take any meds, though I was taking large does of hawthorn which I have run out of!.

I also took ativan for 2 weeks as my blood pressure was high and the doctor thought it could help!. Am I developing agoraphobia because of itWww@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
I do not believe you are agoraphobic!. These symptoms you are having could be just stress!. Stress reeks havoc on our body in so many different ways!. Find some sort of relaxation!. Do some research online about it!. Search for information on agoraphobia -google it or anything else you think of, they should offer some kind of quiz to see if you are showing definite signs -on any medical problems!. I have high blood pressure!. My meds have the side effect of dizziness!. Withdraw from hawthorn -especially large doses of it and if you didn't properly ween yourself off of it could be the reason you are dizzy!. Again google it!. Knowledge is power and when in doubt reach out!. If it stays the same or gets worse then see a doctor a!.s!.a!.p!. I hope I have helped in some way!. Blessings and good luck!. Let me know if you need anything!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad reaction to Ativan!. You'll need to see a doctor, since you have a history of high blood pressure!. It could be that it is your problem, but there are many more things that can cause the very same symptoms, like diabetes, auto-immune disorders (Lyme Disease, Fibromyalgia!.!.), and pneumonia (even if you don't feel like you have a cold!. It happened to me about 10 months ago)!. IT could even be the hawthorn you were taking!. (see link below)

Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ativan isn't a bp med,it's a tranquiliser!.
Staying on any benzodiazepine like medicine (for too Long) makes some change, some isolate themselves the longer they take them!.

From reading your desc:
it's either withdrawal from Ativan,and/or general anxiety, possibly with uncontrolled bp!.
I don't think it's wise to control High BP with non-proven "remedies"!.

you do honestly seem to me like you are talking about symptoms that are really caused by something else!.

i have been known to be wrong of course, Health Anxiety can be treated!
i looked at this to understand fms:

there are so many different possible explanations for all your symptoms!. you could be dizzy because of the heat, or because of an ear infection-headaches can be from too much sun, too much heat, high blood pressure, flu, colds, ect!.- you have far too many symptoms to make it any one disease!. i think sometimes it seems that people are looking for this huge glorious mental disease when all they may have is the flu!. you already admitted you have high blood pressure, get your doctor to prescribe a proper medication for it, and maybe most of your symptoms will disappear!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

This sounds much more like a physical issue, rather than agoraphobia!.

Although, I would not rule out agoraphobia or a panic disorder, you do describe some symptoms such as unsteadiness that may have some underlying physical cause!. Is your blood pressure under control!? Could that be causing your unsteadiness!? If you haven't already done so, I would go back to your physician to rule out any physical problems!.

You say that you are reminded of the anxiety disorder that you had some 20 years ago!. It wasn't clear to me if you are only having the unsteadiness if you are in a que!. If your symptoms are only occuring in a que, then you may, indeed, be having a recurrence of your anxiety disorder!.

Some questions to ask yourself:

Is there anything going on in your life that would create additional stress and anxiety!?
How were you able to control the anxiety 20 years ago!?

Having said that, let me give you some general symptoms of panic attacks and/or agoraphobia!.

Panic attacks come on quickly as if a sudden fear has come over you!. Let's say that you are standing in line at a movie theater!. Suddenly you begin to have some of the following symptoms:

Chest Pains or a racing heart
Feeling dizzy
Stomach problems
Shaking or trembling
Feeling out of control
Feeling unreal
Fear of dying or going crazy

As soon as you leave the line, perhaps getting in your car to go home, the symptoms often just disappear!.

Agoraphobia with panic attacks happens when you begin to live in fear of another panic attack!. Gradually your world gets smaller and smaller!. Some people with agoraphobia have a small safety zone, perhaps they can go to the market or pick their children up from school!.

To summarize: I would go back to your physician and rule out any physical problems!. If there is no physical reason that can be found, you might want to see a behavioral counselor who can help you work on some techniques to control your anxiety!.
