I think my mom is a hypochondriac?!

Question: I think my mom is a hypochondriac!?
I think my mom is a hypochondriac!. She is always complaining and a real "downer"!. She's 55 and has just been issued a walker!. She came to visit me recently and she filled up an entire dresser drawer with medication bottles! I couldn't believe it! She feels that she needs to eat to a particular diet (having to do with your blood type) and thinks she suffers from GERD!. She also thinks every area of her body is broken!. She takes anti-depressants, anti-anxiety, anti-anything she can get her hands on! Honestly it scares me and she's on so much stuff! She is also always talking about suicide!. When she came to visit, she said to me, "I almost commited suicide 2 weeks ago, but it was more of a threat [to her husband]!." I told her, "You cannot tell me these things knowing I'll call the authorities on you and have you taken into custidy to protect you from yourself!." She then would say, "Oh, I'd not do it, it's only to scare him!." So use suicide as punishment!? I don't understand her!. She also thinks everyone is out to get her ALL THE FREAKING TIME! If someone leaves the room, she'll ask, "Are they mad at me!?"
I'm not making any of this up and I'm not exaturating on anything (please forgive any spelling errors here)!. Well this started out as hypocondriac questions but now it's more of a "what in the heck is wrong with my mom!?"Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
She is obviously feeling neglected (yes, I know she's probably not, but she FEELS that way), so perhaps instead of criticizing her, make extra efforts to call or visit more often!. Send her cards, let her know she is loved!. Manipulative behaviour from people of ANY age is annoying, but we must try to understand WHY they feel the need to manipulate!. Tell your mother how this makes you feel!. Ask her if she feels rejected by you, and if so, why!. Then tell her your concern over the amount of medications she is taking, and ask if you might accompany her to a doctor appointment!. Make sure all her doctors are aware of everything, even over-the-counter meds she is taking!. Some prescription anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds cannot be mixed with other certain meds!. When a person her age has that many scripts, you can almost be sure all her doctors are not aware of what she takes, and mixing some of them could be affecting her behaviour!. Get her doctors names off all the bottles and call each one and have the nurse call you so you can tell her what all she is on!. Meds that don't mix could very well be making her behave so oddly, and are a potentially serious health risk!. I had a friend whose dad was behaving similar, and he was taking 15 different medications!. My friend did what I am telling you to do, got him with a primary care doctor, and his dad is now on 4 medications!. And if you're doing those things, she is SURE gonna know you care, and the situation might ease somewhat on its own!. Hang in there!Www@Answer-Health@Com

she sounds like she has real issues and maybe needs the attention or really is sick!. talk to her doctors if possible or talk to her and she if you can get her into a therapist!. major good luck!!!!!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com
