Answers:
It might depend from city to city!. I trained at a suicide hotline, and their policy was to call police if they felt you were a genuine threat to yourself/others!. But in spite of the fact that everyone calling was feeling pretty lousy, it wasn't a regular occurrence that they called the cops!.

A lot of people call, say they're thinking about hurting themself, but really what they want is just to talk to someone who understands how bad they're feeling!. The person at the hotline has to encourage the caller to seek help - head to the hospital, talk to family or roommates, etc!. But they don't call the police unless the caller says they're definitely doing something!. And even then, it's a tricky area!. For example, if the caller said "I'm going to kill my baby," then police would be called!. If it's self-harm, it's more of a gray area!. Generally the hotline person will sit and talk to the caller!.!. if the caller hangs up mid-crisis, or keeps saying they are going to take action, then police might be called!.

At this particular hotline, they didn't have call display!. I think in order to call police (though I can't remember 100% for sure) they would need to order a trace on the phone!. So that could either be done after the caller hung up, or by getting another hotline volunteer to call the trace from another line!. But it isn't something that is done unless the threat sounds really realistic!. The hotline doesn't want to scare people away from calling by sending the cops every time people make threats!. It's better to assume that the caller just needs someone to lend an ear, and then call cops only if/when the situation escalated!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No they do not track the call!. They do, however care about you and your safety, or they wouldn't be in that line of work!. If you feel like you can't talk to anyone around you, please do give them a call!. If you NEED help, they can refer you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

NO!. They are just there to talk to you and rationalize with you!. If they tracked your call, then nobody would ever call!. My sister used to work at one before she became a full time counselor!.
