Is positive thinking overrated?!

Question: Is positive thinking overrated!?
I'm afraid to think positive about things cause I don't want to sound arrogant or get my hopes up too high!. Last time whenever I applied the power of positive thinking to something, it didn't work out the way I intended it to be, so I got extremely devasted which left me in tears for days and so hopeless almost to the point of suicide--that's cause I got my hopes too high from positive thinking!. Here's a clear example: I'm fresh out of a college with a job that's seasonal, not permanent nor full time, so I've been hunting for another job like crazy for the past 3 weeks or so, lucky to already get one interview, followed up but didn't work out, I was overqualified (knew that to begin with from the interview), but then I got another rejection that same day from a place I was a sure fit for--I took that second rejection really hard, I was crying my eyes out and was hysterical and had thoughts about dying and suicide--and the reason why I got upset to that extreme and acted selfish was because I thought positively!. Basically if I think positive about anything and the outcome is the worst case scenario, then I cannot cope very well and I'll feel like sh*t for a long time and possibly end up in a psychiatric ward!. So I think negative and assume the worst so that I'll have a better grip and be able to cope well if the worst outcome actually happens!. I wake up and say to myself "Time to get more rejections from jobs!. Forcast calls for another crappy day!. My accomplishments are no big deal!." blah blah blah!. Therefore the power of positive thinking is probably not even worth effort!. Does anyone else feel the same way as I do on this!? So from what I just explained above, does positive thinking sound overrated!?!? I would like to see other ppl's perspective on this!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
