Yes, I had the exact same reaction, it is called activation when your body respond pretty much against the medication and your anxiety gets worse!. It will take a month for your body and brain to get used the the medication and then it will let the medication help you!. It is very weird!. This is what you do for the month until the Lexipro works!. Take one Ativan in the morning and one in the afternoon!. By the end of the month you will not need the Ativan anymore (which is good because it is addictive after 30 days and don't let anyone tell you differently!.) Ativan is a type of beta blocker!. You want a beta blocker that will stay in your body for a few hours so that you don't have to take very many!. Beta blockers zap out the anxiety right away (well, in 20 minutes and your anxiety will be GONE!.) They are not a long term solution, but they should be used to get you through the first month and to stamp out the acitvation side effects!.

I promise you it is worth it to stick it out for the month and it you are like me, which is sounds like you are, you will need a beta blocker to get you through!. You probably will also need to up the dosage of the Lexipro throughout the month too because anxiety sufferers need higher dosages than people with depression!.

The best news is that if you are on a non addicitve drug like Lexipro, you can be weened off it down the road!. I am drug free now, but they helped me through a horrible time of anxiety and I am very comforted knowing that I have options if the anxiety comes back!.

One more thing, if the Lexipro doesn't work for you after a while, try Zoloft!. That helped me although if I took meds again I would try Lexipro because of the side effect of Zoloft are tiresome, even though it completely zapped out my anxiety!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc!.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc!.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level!.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication!. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac!. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings!. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac!. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc!.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced!.!.!. you have that "learned behavior" in your mind!. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this!. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction!.!.!. There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to!.!.!.!.

You have to give it time it could take about 4 weeks before you notice anything!. I seriously doubt that the medication is getting you more anxious!. You need to stick to one medication and take something that is going to relieve your anxiety while that medication kicks in!. I did paroxotine and clonazapam know I only take 10 mg of paraxotine and I have the clonazapam for emergencies but rarely take them like 2-3 times a month cause the paraxotine works really good!. I just had to give it time to do it work in my system!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

MEDICATIONS FOR ANXIETY DISORDERS

Medication can be very useful in treating anxiety disorders and is often used in combination with other forms of therapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy!. The most important aspect of the process of beginning a medication is to have an open and honest discussion with your physician, followed by ongoing evaluation and monitoring!.

While medications can be extremely effective in treating the symptoms of anxiety disorders, such as worry, panic attacks, insomnia, and difficulty concentrating, they have notable limitations:

1!.
Medications may not resolve all of the symptoms of an anxiety disorder!. To achieve complete remission, which is the goal of any treatment, you may need to make important changes in your life!. You may also benefit from individual or group psychotherapy treatment!.
2!.
Medications will work only if they are taken according the explicit instructions of your physician!.

Here are some tips to help you effectively talk with your doctor about medications:

* Let your doctor know all medications you are taking, including prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs, herbal or dietary supplements, and vitamins!.
* Make sure you get all of the information you need about a new prescription!. How will the medication help you!? What side effects might occur!? Should you avoid any foods or beverages!? Are drug interactions with other prescriptions a possibility!?
* Make sure you know when to take a new medication and how, such as on any empty stomach or with food, in the morning or evening, and how frequently!.
* Find out how long it should take for the medication to start working and what you should expect when this happens!.
* Ask for the prescribing physician's after-hours phone number in case you develop side effects!.
* A good source of information about medications and over-the-counter products is your pharmacist, who should have information about all your prescriptions to advise you about possible drug interactions, side effects, and instructions for use!.

Side Effects
Although many patients do not experience any side effects of anxiety medications, the most commonly reported include the following:

* headaches
* nausea
* stomach upset
* dizziness
* sexual side effects

Most side effects are temporary, but some may be persistent and require a dosage adjustment or a change of medication!. Rarely will medications prescribed for anxiety disorders require blood monitoring!.

What should I do if I experience a side effect!?

* Contact your physician, even if you are not sure a symptom is caused by a medication!.
* Do not stop taking a medication without consulting the prescribing physician; abrupt discontinuation may cause other health risks!.

Many patients are concerned about becoming addicted to medications!. Those commonly prescribed for anxiety disorders do not cause addiction, although some (such as alprazolam, diazepam, and clonazepam) may be associated with dependency!. Inform your physician if you have a history of substance abuse!. Most patients can stop taking any medication safely under supervision when the course of treatment is finished!.
