Are ADD and ADHD the same thing?!

Question: Are ADD and ADHD the same thing!?
What's the difference between ADD and ADHD!? If there is even one!. I'm pretty sure I have one of these!. I have a REALLY hard time focusing, and get very easily distracted!. It's almost impossible for me to multi-task, because I have to focus all my attention on one thing!. Like I can't type if there are people talking or the tv is on, stuff like that!. I was one of those kids who was in school and when we were taking a test if someone was so much as tapping their pencil on the desk I couldn't focus on the test (I would read the same question over and over again)!. I also tend to not be able to sit still for too long!. My brain wanders a lot and random things will pop in to my head!. My brain thinks really fast and sometimes it doesn't feel like I can even proccess one whole thought before I'm thinking of another!.

I also suffer from major depression and anxiety so I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it!. I've never been diagnosed with ADD or ADHD but I have a strong feeling that I do have it!. Thanks for all your help!Www@Answer-Health@Com

The answer is both yes and no!. Technically ADD and ADHD are the exact same thing but one is an old fashioned term!. The condition used to be called ADD (attention deficit disorder) but in 1987 the American psychiatric association changed the name from ADD to ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)!. ADD was a well known term and many people still use it, but the correct name for this condition is ADHD!. ADD is just the old term for it!.

However there are different types of ADHD, one type is called ADHD Type A (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder predominatly innatentive type)!. Those with ADHD type A are generally not hyperactive and do not have any of the behavior problems associated with ADHD but they do suffer from the concentration and learning problems!. Many doctors and sufferers don't like the term ADHD for type A sufferers because it is misleading as they are not hyperactive at all!. Many people use the old term ADD to describe this type, it is not the correct term but it is often a more appropriate one!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
