What exactly does a therapist do?!


Question: What exactly does a therapist do!?
I have had problems with anxiety for a while and since it is affecting other things, like my appetite, I will probably see a therapist (I asked my mom and she said she'd consider it)!. My mom called the doctor yesterday and they're going to call back once they call the therapist!. What do therapists do!? What should I expect!? People with experience will especially help! I am a therapist!. You talk!. You figure out the insight to your problems and you grow and work on them!.

We don't do anything but listen and possibly give you other alternatives to think about but you do what you think is best for you!. WE DO NOT TELL YOU WHAT TO DO! That is wrong!.

Therapists are very supportive!.!.!.do not judge and do not say!.!.!.you should have done this and that or even tell you are wrong!. They help guide you in what you want to do with your life!.

You do grow from it!. It is work!.!.and it takes honesty if you want help!.!.!.!.and it is up to you to bring up the subjects and ask for help!.

If you are not honest in therapy!.!.!.you are wasting your money!. NO one can help you but yourself!.!.!.but people that are professional in this area know how to ask questions that make you think and talk!. We ask open ended questions and want to know how you feel about something and why!. Not for us!.!.!.but so YOU can see what is inside and making you anxious and having the problems you are!.

It can be a great experience and a not so great experience!. If you don't like your therapist ask for another one!. Not all therapists are created equal and not everyone is meant to like everyone!.!.!.so trust is a big thing here!. If you don't feel you can open up to someone for ANY reason!.!.!.maybe you don't even like they way they look or you get a woman and you want a man!.!.!.!.ASK for someone else!.

another thing!.!.!.if you go someplace with a group!.!.ask to see the same person every time!. Sometimes they switch you back and forth between people and you are constantly repeating to someone else what you already talked about and it is like spinning your wheels in mud!.

SO get the same person all the time so they know you and you can start off where you left off and not start over each time!.

Well, when I went to therapy with my depression and anxiety dissorder the therapists just asks you questions of how your home life is, your school life is, and perhaps why you are feeling the way you are!.

Plus, therapists are just people to talk to about your problems!. They might give you "homework" assignments to help work with your dissorder!.

Other than the therapist perhaps a medication would be good too!. Even when I went to therapy it didn't help me much until I was put on an anti-depressant!.

A therapist is the WRONG route! I've had anxiety for years and finally, yesterday, found a PSYCHIATRIST who understood what I have been going through!. A psychiatrist can give you meds to cope; a therapist cannot prescribe anything!. Tell your mother that her "consideration" isn't helping you, that you have a very real problem!. If she will not take you to a psychiatrist, go to your school counselor and explain your problem to them or call a psychiatrist yourself!. That may get her attention and make her realize you're serious and so is your problem!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

To understand what a therapist does you need to know what a therapy is!.

The word "therapy" comes from the Greek "therapeia" meaning "a service, an attendance" which, in turn, is related to the Greek verb "therapeuo" meaning "I wait upon!." Therapy was (and is) a service done to the sick!.

The therapist = One who specializes in the provision of a particular therapy!.

they are just supposed to listen to you and your symptoms to see if there is anything you can do differently to avoid feeling the way you are feeling!. its good if you are having anxiety to go see one, they can really help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
